Artist: Greg Brown
Title: The Poet Game
Year: 1994
Label: Red House Records
Genre:Folk

This is one of my all time favorite albums.Greg has many albums out,but I feel this is far and away his best album. There is not one bad track on this album, listen to it start to finish everytime.Greg has a very deep baritone voice. The album is a deep dark reflective piece of work. The only light tracks on the album are 'Jesus & Elvis', a song paralleling the lives of the two,and Boomtown. My Favorite tracks are Brand New '64 Dodge and the title track The Poet Game.

I agree, Greg Brown is one of my favorites and The Poet Game is one of his best IMO. Great album start to finish as you say.

It's great to see a couple of "Brownies" on the forum:thmbsp:

My favorite Greg Brown disk rotates between Poet Game, Further In and Dream Cafe... at least one of his disks is always in rotation on my player!

I've got his Slant 6 Mind and I love it. I had never heard of him before, but my first car was a Dodge Dart with a slant 6 engine, so I bought the CD just for the title. Turned out to be great after I played it a few times. If Poet Game is even better, I will be in for a real treat. BTW, does the guitarist on Slant 6 Mind, Bo Ramsey, also play on the Poet Game CD?

Mike,

I agree Slant Six Mind is also a Fantastic Album! Great guitar work by both Bo Ramsey and Kelly Joe Phelps, both these guys also play on Further In.

Bo Ramsey plays on Poet Game and Covenant (another very good GB album).

I don't have "Dream Cafe". I'll have to check it out.

Slant 6 Mind is amazing, Billy from the Hills is a song that sends chills up my spine every time.

I like Greg Brown, one favorite of mine is "canned goods" I believe that's the title. He's a very good writer, got a real handle on the human condition.
