Another Marantz woodcase question

I'm in love with my 4300
Sorry, But I'm a little confused on this whole woodcase thing. Got two Marantz cassette decks, both with different wood cases. ( I never wanted the cases back in the seventies the joints would burn them) One for my 5220 looks like it should be for a reciever, has a large grill on top. The other on my 5200 is a solid case with no grill on top. HELP????

My 5220 has the receiver type wood case and my 5020 has the solid top case. I bought them both used so I can't say they came that way, but both cases sure looked like they had been matched with their players a long time.
I'm sure back when they were first sold it was common for the dealers to put whatever case they had on hand to make a sale if that is what it took.

I have both of the cases you mentioned. Probably the most popular mid size case would be WC-22 that fits most of the the 222x model receivers. Will also work for the 5220/5020 cassette decks but will be several inches too long. The smaller case we have with the wire grill is just the smaller version of the WC-22 and IIRC the model is WC-116 but could be WC-15T as both of those cases will fit smaller 221x model receivers and fit both 5220/5020 cassette decks correctly. I am not exactly sure of the solid top wooden case model number. Classic Audio lists wooden case model number WC-22U for the 5220. Well, I am confused more...anyone else?
 
My 5220 came with the larger WC-22 cabinet with the top grill, however, the owner's manual specifies the "attractive walnut veneer cabinet, Model WC-15T, may be obtained from your Marantz dealer."

Burn them?!


The deeper WC-22 is for the reciever and the shorter WC-22U is for the cassette deck. Both have grills. I've seen ones without grills and I don't know what model it is. There is also a WC-121 that is 3 sided and has no grill but I'm not sure if it fits you models.

The last mint woodcase for a deck I wanted to buy went over $200.

Yea, puting a lighted "joint" on the case would burn it while I was turning over the cassette. Learned from my first wood case on my 4300...Why do you think they call it dope????
i'm going to check on which 22 cases I have....And I can take the veneer off of these cases?????

Okay after a few hours of study.......

Both the cases fit the 5220/5200. Both are an exact fit and look good. Any guesses on why they made one with a grill??? Don't believe that the deck gets hot enough to warrant one???

I've had a 5220 since 1975, NEVER got that hot.......:scratch2:


Stacks better with the other case too.....:thmbsp:
