Koss CM-1030's - They're Going To The Buckeye State

Well, I hung onto these for a couple years and finally decided to let these go to a family member in Ohio, they're huge speakers and costed a bundle about 25 years ago. I had to replace the resistors and SPDT center-off level switches for the tweeters and midranges. The cabients were imaaculate, not a dent or chip anywhere on them, plus no water stain rings, YES!!! I have to say these are really under-rated speakers, enjoy the pics, Dave. :music:

All resistors lost their wires to corrosion, very strange!!

Wow, those are beautiful.:sigh: And I love the inset handles. More speakers should have those. What does the sound compare to?

The sound was similar to the Marantz HD-770 and HD-880 series except these seem like they have a little less bass because of the smaller woofers, these systems are very quick to repond though with small drivers. My cousin's kid is getting a good bargain for $100 and I'm driving them 100 miles to meet him half-way, Dave. :D
 
A friend of mine has had a set of those for almost 30 years. I love the way they sound. We both sold stereo equip. together, and she got her 1030's after I got my 1a stats. Cause she loved the way they sounded.

30 Years, that's pretty long, I delivered the speakers in my 99 Taurus, it required some magic to get one in the trunk, the back seat was no sweat, I hope he likes them, he's going to use a vintage Lafayette receiver, possibly an LR-5555A? :scratch2:
 
I had a a set of the 1020's (and 530's) and loved them. The leads on the resistors were copper (as opposed to aluminum), which is why they corroded as they did. The original resistors were all quite premium 1% and 5%, whereas the ones I replaced them with are all 10%.

Peerless tweeters with Heppner mid's and woofers: can't go wrong.
 
Nice pictures, did they grow in the garden too? :music: Those Koffins aren't a bad sounding loudspeaker and appear in marvellous shape. They are unmistakeable standouts too.

Copper, that's why they corroded like car battery terminals, very strange!! Yes, those resistors were primo but very strange Ohm values, Dave. :yes:

Yep, those caskets grew next to the petunia's!! Now that you mention it, they do look like small coffins, maybe it's the handles?? :scratch2:
