Well I was looking at some speakers from a cl ad near my home , the gentleman was moving so I asked the usual do you have anthing else ,His wife said we have a stereo console ,I did not take the speakers but from hangin out on AK I looked at the rear and saw a tube map ,and I was pleased.He turned it on and tuned a few stations in ,He said they have been using it since the bought it . I took it home and hooked the cd player to it and ran it thru my dlk3's and was amazed.This is my first piece of tube equipment,do I need to modify or update anything on this ,and does anyone know what speakers are in this consoles,and how many watts this is likely putting out,the back says 100 watts but I know ratings were different at that time ,the tubes are ell80's and rated at 13 to 16 watts from what I have found ,any help would be great.

EL80? You sure? I'd guess maybe EL84 or EL34s. Whichever is a 6BQ5 tube cross.

Nice score though, it should sound good on the factory speakers, which should be nice and efficient.

The only thing I'd update would be the capacitors in the signal path. Cheap and usually easy to do. If it doesn't hum I wouldn't even worry about that.

Those look like EL-84s to me, also.
 
Yes this is an integrated with am/fm ,only thing it says on the faceplate is DIPLOMAT, and the model number on the console is 39
 
Fisher used the ELL80 (6HU8) in some hybrid amps that could very well be 100watts (total). That would mean the TXs are interstage, but I don't see the big TO3 transistors. :scratch2:
 
This one uses the 6HU8 / ELL80 as push-pull outputs. Maybe 8 watts / channel. Not listed in the Sams index, unfortunately...
 
The added bonus is the hot dog basket Jensen woofers in there.

If they are 8-ohm, you could be looking at a cool $75+ apiece to the guitar lads.

The tweeters look similar to they type used in many vintage speakers so you've got something there as well.

I love finds like this as they keep on giving.
 
Ive found one vintage restoration article of a fisher radio that uses the ell80 tubes that claims they put out 20 to 25 watts and specs that say 8 to 13 watts???????? This amp is driving my dlk 3s with 12 inch woofers with no problem , they however are rated at 120 watts efficient speakers.
 
I also have a Diplomat. The cabinet on mine looks a little different but the innards look the same.
 
What your DLKs are rated at for power is irrelevent to their efficiency.

Less efficient=more power needed to obtain LOUD
More efficient=less power needed to obtain same LOUDNESS.
