I'm putting this here, buecause, well.. It is audio related.. but I have to RAVE about Howard's Restore-A-Finish products..

Both of these radios had some pretty rough looking finishes on them... I was even considering refinishing the one without the innards.. but I'm so glad I didn't. I figured give Howard's a whirl, and if it still looked bad, then I would refinish... needless to say, it isn't getting refinished.

For those of you that have the really nice wood cases on recievers and amps, I highly recomend you try the Howards line first before refinishing....

That too... but cleaning before using howards is the real work.. I scrubbed them both down with Murphy's oil soap beforehand.. that's the big chore trying to get all the grime off first.. .
 
What type of finishes have you guys found that Howard's works best on? I assume it works very well on penetrating finishes such as oil, but it would be futile to apply it to surface finishes such as lacquer and varnish, right?

Not sure what the radio to the left is finished with, but it's either a laquer or varnish, and it really gave it life. Howards says it will not desolve or damage any finish... I've used it on some bare wood too, and it looks good...
 
The finish could very well be shellac. THe solvent for shellac is denatured alcohol. Shellac is an easy to repair finish as well.

Howard's 'Feed and Wax' is the best for any wood finish. It'll bring wood with no finish back to life and it'll shine lacquered/poly finished items as well...granted it won't penetrate the wood as well, if at all through those finishes. I use Howard's on my MAC 1700's walnut cabinet as well as my Utah Heritage speakers. The more you use the stuff the better the wood looks! It's just wise to feed and condition wood anyways! It also makes any scratches in the finish darken and become less evident.

I'm a painter by trade and I even use and recommend Howard's for dulled stained wood doors and trim.

Now all I need is a 40, that way I'll have a 3 year run.. .LOL.. no.. I think I'm done for a while, unless I find something that just screams make a buck off me... use it to pay for these others..
