Best speakers for outdoor party

Hey, my first post here.

I've been using a set of Cerwin Vega D2 speakers for my tailgating and one of them has stated acting up.

I think it's a woofer but I guess it might could be a cross over.

Trying to go the low buck route.

Probably cheapest way would be to buy a new woofer but I would kind of like something different.

Any help is appreciated.

How big of a party?
 
The only good outdoor party that I've been to had Cerwin Vegas blasting. Not really sure the model number but they were loud. Sounds like you have already taken this route though.
 
I'd see what's wrong first - if you liked them it might be the path of least resistance to fix them. Otherwise you might want to look for some PA type speakers that are built to be moved around a lot.
 
Find a set of beat up Mach One's with good surrounds for little cash and put 150 watts/channel on them. Otherwise, start looking at used PA speakers. All depends on how much bass you want and how much money you are willing to spend. Getting good bass outdoors is the biggest obstacle.
 
Another set of Cerwin Vegas, maybe some Radio Shack's Mach Ones, and PA speakers are good for outdoor too.
 
CV THE party Speaker!!!! :rockon::rockon::rockon: Wife's D9's easy load, great efficiency!!! Super loud. Baby sitter blew the fuse one time. Used a nad 2200 amp. Asked her how. They were outside the house on my 4 acre plot and wanted to hear the speaks. House was all closed up. Probably putting out better than 120 dB. Hope your party friends don't like string quartets!!!!!!:yes::yikes:

What are/were you driving them with? Overdriven low power amps will kill a speaker easier then 100's of clean watts!
 
Peavey PA speakers are loud, sound good and take one hell of a beating. I tried for 8 years to destroy a pair in the band I was in to no avail. Powered by Crown amps those suckers could nearly blind you.
 
PA speakers, but the really cheap ones sound, well, really cheap...

Yamaha makes some nice (relatively) inexpensive PA speakers. A used pair usually brings anywhere from $300 to $400 for the newer series. Sometimes you can find a better deal if the seller is desperate. They're better than other brands, including JBL, Peavey, etc. around the same price point.

When looking for PA speakers to use outdoors, look for the ones that are coated with the stuff like spray-on truck bed liner. Carpet absorbs and holds water if they get accidentally rained on, etc. The other stuff costs a little more, but prolly worth it in the long run. Not available on all though, carpet is still pretty common...

I would say an Altec voice of the theater or two should fit the bill very nicely....:sing:
But you might have to get another truck to hold them :D

Not sure of the brand or power of receiver.

To many different hands on the system, I have to constantly remind them to turn it down because it's distorting.

I run my laptop to the receiver with a cord that goes from the headphone jack of the laptop to the AUX. plugs on the receiver.

100 gigs of MP3's will play for a lonnnnnnnnnng time.

I know my rig ain't the audiophile set up of the century but it works quite well for outside.

I love me some old stereo equipment.

I'll have to dig out my old stuff and get the model numbers.

I've got one old Sony integrated amp and HK digital tuner that I bought at a yard sale about 20 years ago for $20 for both.

An old BIC / Luxman analog tuner.

An old SAE Power amp.

My home theater is outdated, 5.1 Pioneer with Klipsch Heresy's and KG center and rears, but still pleases my ears. :music: :music: :music:

Actually, if you do this quite regularly, a pair of powered speakers might be right up your alley.

While not TOTL, I've read the newer Behringer powered speakers aren't too bad for the money. I wouldn't build a business on them, but for tailgating or other non-commercial use, they might be just the ticket - probably more than you want to spend though.

I have a set at work and they get cranked daily. I work in a very large metal fab shop and they have taken a lot of abuse. You can't go wrong with the price either and the free shipping. Not the speaker for critical listening by any means but they can take a beating and put out quite a bit of bass. They also have built in carrying handles on the sides of the boxes.

Or if you want to spend a little more you can get its bigger brother. Free shipping on these also.
