Kenwood KT5300 Differences?

I have two KT5300s. One working, the other is not. I don't have Schematics, but I thought I might be able to track down the problem by checking readings with a DMM comparing the good and the bad. When I got them open side by side, I noticed a difference. (see photos) Does anyone have any idea what the extra circuit does? (the board marked X13.2480.00)

I havn't looked inside my KT5300 in awhile, (dont use it much anymore) but I don't think mine has that board. It may be a mod that a previous owner installed. Does it look like an addon?, or does it look like its been in there since day one?. Kind of messes you up for your side by side troubleshooting method mentioned, at least near the mod. Which one works the (assumed) modded or the (assumed) stock?. I'd be interested if you got which ever one fixed, which one sounded better, or recieved stations better, in a side by side comp. You would think it would have to be an attempt at improvement. Good luck I hope you can fix which ever one needs it so you can experiment. Good thing about it is the KT5300 is priced reasonibly low, which my or may not allow you invest more of a budget to fix or get it fixed. Good luck CC

Thanks for replying CC.
The one with the extra board is the one that works, it appears to be stock (there are holes in the case for the stand-offs on both tuners), and the one with the board has the earlier s/n. The one without the board doesn't seem to have been tampered with, but it doesn't have the pin connections to wire the extra board to the main board. I guess I'll just have to break down and order a service manual (since I only have about $10 invested so far, the sm will about triple what I'll have invested). Since these little tuners are so common, I has hoping someone would have run into this already.

I believe X-13-2480-00 is for the muting function. Are the tuner board numbers different? (X-05-1360-11 - X05-1360-12) It looks like they changed the FM IF and FM MPX ICs around the 510001 serial number.

I have 2 schematics. One has X05-1360-11 with ICs HA1137W, HA1156 and HA1151. The other has X05-1360-12 with X13-2480-00 and ICs KB4402, KB4409 and HA1151.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.

One has X05-1360-11 with ICs HA1137W, HA1156 and HA1151.

The one I have like this doesn't work, and has a s/n in the 651000 range.

The other has X05-1360-12 with X13-2480-00 and ICs KB4402, KB4409 and HA1151.

The one I have similar to this works, but instead of the KB4409 mine has an HA1156. This one is working just fine and has a s/n in the 51700 range.

Thanks for the help,
Matt
