Mullard 12AX7 no glow
I tried some reissued Mullard 12AX7 and noticed that they don't glow like the stock McIntosh 12AX7A. I mean they look like their not even on! All four are like that. The amp (MC2000) plays fine. Is this a problem or it's normal?

If it plays it's probably not a problem. Some filaments don't glow as brightly as others. It isn't just the brand, but also the specific tube. I've seen JJ El84's side by side, with one normal filament and one filament that extended far down past the cathode structure towards the base of the tube. The normal filament glowed like a vacuum tube, the other one glowed like a light bulb. Both worked fine.

None of my Sovtek 12AX7LPS tubes display any glow...but they seem to work just fine. As long as your tubes work (and get warm when they're in use) I would forget about it...unless you really want to see some action.
One of the things that surprized me about my first 2A3 SET was that this tube does not seem to glow either. No drama...except for the music. |

Don't worry about it, some tubes are just like that. The first 12AX7 tubes I used didn't glow, and I was actually alarmed when I delved into the world of tube rolling and a pair of 5157s glowed very brightly!

I was little concerned when I saw my C220 tubes glowing bright green.
