Technics SL-1500 fixer upper..

Good morning,

I won a Technics SL-1500 TT that runs slow, according to the seller. It has not arrived yet. I think it will need a cartridge, any recommendations?

UPDATE: The technics arrived in good order, no damage I can see. On the bench tomorrow.

That's a good table. I had one that I fixed up, cleaned up, etc and gave to my best friend back home last year. He was thrilled to death and that's put him (and his wife) on the same quest as me on finding LP's, equipment, etc. IIRC, the 1500 I gave him ran a little slow too at first and with a good cleaning/lubing with Deoxit on all the controls, plus a little oil on the motor, it runs like a top.

I was figuring the same, I had a Lafayette TT with the same problem, cleaned the trimmers and lubed her up and she worked fine.

I bought one last spring had a nasty speed issue. Cleaned the pots plus had to adjust the trim controls located under the platter and PRESTO speed since then has been spot on. One tweak i tried that seem to improve the sound was I wrapped the arm in that super thin teflon tape that plumber use.
A good cleaning of the pots should do the trick.
One more thing make sure the seller protects the bottom as it's a thin plastice and is prone to cracking.

I finish the 1st step of the repair, cleaned all the controls and lubed the bearing. It plays great now! Pics below.

back inside...

Good Morning!

I spoke in haste, the SL-1500 had to come apart again, I lost the right channel last night? There is a open in the RCA cable for the right channel. The ground side was good. The left is still working.

Any suggestion on a good cable for this TT?:scratch2:
