My question is about eBay Item number: 220222754011. I only just discovered the auction, and it ends tomorrow. Wondering what model they are and if they look like worth picking up. They would go on my new basement system.

Those drivers look like the typical Polycell two-ways. I have the same pair at home, I cannot recall what the series is. They sound plenty good, I much preferred to the similar Polks of the era after a side-by-side. The Polycells sounded punchier with more impact.
The cabinetry on mine is vinyl and particle board, I have a problem with that. It looks fine as long as it doesn't get dinged up. It cannot be sanded and / or repaired. Also, particle board degrades over the years.
You can find these occasionally at the thrifts. I would pick them up locally for a good price. I would have to think shipping expenses would make the deal not worthwhile.

How far is Akron from Kent? It's a sad day when you not only factor in wear and tear on the car but, gas price as well, if the seller let's you come over for a listen and you like you buy, might be worth it! If you emphasize he doesn't have to worry abou packing and shipping hassles he might bite, never hurts to ask!

OK, I am not exactly new to eBay with a feedback record of 229, all positive, but this is one of the weirdest things that has happened to me so far. The seller agreed to local pickup after I emailed him, and shortly afterwards send this:
I told him not to worry, I would just pay cash at pickup. This caused the dude to block me from bidding on his auction. He received 0 bids, and has immediately re-listed the speakers with a reduced shipping charge of $30 and also offering local pickup! What's wrong with this dude? Does he think the $ bills I give him will poisonous

Would there be any difference in how eBay would calculate or charge the fees for the auction? Perhaps he wants the payment to go through eBay's system, for some reason of protection, or so he can have the money in his PayPal account to easily pay eBay's fees with? There are so many scams out there, and so many possible scenarios regarding eBay payments, that all kinds of beliefs and interpretations crop up. I've seen people who ONLY will accept exactly what another REFUSES to accept, many a time, and I'm not speaking about the obvious scams. Hard to tell why some people do things the way they do, but there is usually a reason, even if a misguided one.
You might ask him if/when you see him. His explanation might be interesting.

I emailed him and he says he hasn't blocked me on purpose. I have never blocked anybody on eBay, so your guess is as good as mine how easy it is to block somebody by accident. Anyhow, I am going to meet the seller tomorrow morning to check out the speakers. He is willing to sell them for $55, so that sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

For international transactions, there is precious little left in alternatives, since Western Union Money Transfers are now forbidden and BidPay is gone. I guess you can still send an international money order through the mail, or you can barter. I've done both, the latter when I sold a camera lens to a guy in Kathmandu, who then found out that he was not allowed to send foreign currency out of Nepal. He send me three little golden Buddha statues in the mail, which are beautiful :tresbon:

I have a pair of the Infinity SM-80 which are similar to the ebay model you're considering. IMHO decent, but nothing to get excited about. Don't know about the RS-46.

In decent condition, they're a steal at that price. Google them and you'll see what I'm talking about. I'm looking at a pair right now for BIN price of $600. Of course the sound will depend on musical taste and personal preference, but get them, experience them and either keep them or let them go (for a profit even).
Forgot to mention most likely these will be project speakers and at a minimum need new woofer surrounds, so you may want to take that into consideration. Not sure if you're looking to put additional time and money into the speakers.

Those are not RS-46, those are RS-4b. Don't walk, RUN to get those. Even if the woofers need refoaming, they are a STEAL at that price.

I emailed the seller last night, and had a response back this morning with a phone number. The guy said he wanted to sell these because "they had gone out of style" and he was now using "one of these little Bose systems". Of course we read stuff like that on AudioKarma every day, but who ever expects to find a guy like that in the real world? Anyhow, it kind of fitted in because the suburb where the speakers were located is one of those places where big mansions in a beautiful park-like setting attract people with a lot more money than sense to live there! So I raced to his place :zoom:
The seller couldn't get over the fact that by this morning his mailbox had been filled with inquiries about the speakers from people as far away as Pittsburgh, while he though surely even college kids these days wouldn't fill their dorm rooms with old junk like this, when they could use "one of these little Bose systems". I didn't hesitate to support him in his beliefs, and easily managed to bargain him down to $80. :grnbounce:
Shortly after 9am this morning I was the proud owner of a pair of Infinity RS-4b in absolute mint condition. I don't doubt that the only work I'll have to do on these is dusting and the application of some furniture polish! :yippy:
Now here is a scary question, does anybody think these might sound better than Paradigm 11se MkII, which are currently my main speakers? I use them with a NAD 3020.
Off to clean my new babies and hook them up!

Definitely 4b, but one can easily see how somebody can read it as 46 in the dim light of the garage where they were stored.
The only blemish I could find on the cabinets, and it's on the back.

Either that or the bills he's been handlen' keep rollin' up and he's getting a reaction from all the coke on 'um. He's not a good e-bayer, I'd not give it a 2nd thought lot's of other good stuff will come along,trust me!
