Audio Lab AL-60 Info needed

Hello all, I'm a noob on this forum, have been lurking, learning, and now diving in. I recently picked up what I think are a nice set of speakers at a thrift store. After getting them home I went to research them on this forum, google, yahoo, ebay, the internet. I haven't found any information about them. One has blown out foam and this will be my first attempt at rebuilding. I did plug the undamaged one in and think it sounds real nice (subjective). Richer, more mellow than my Pioneer CS-63DX.
They are heavy (50 pounds?), 18 1/4" x 13 1/2" x 27 1/2", wood veneer, the woofer is 11 1/2" across the foam, midrange 6" across foam. They are serial numbered 10138 and 07734. I have some photos here. Any help and/or information would be useful and appreciated.

Here are a couple of pics of the rear of the other speaker. A more complete manufacturer's label. Just now noticed the "Made in Poland" part. Any Polish audiophiles out there?

Only thing I could find on Audio Lab's was a link to a car speaker manufacturer. They look well made. The horn-loaded tweeter resembles a Jensen Sonodome which is good stuff. The mid is quite large, similar to some speakers I have that were manufactured by a company that made PA and instrument speakers.

If you're planning on re-foaming the woofers, you better check the mid range surrounds as well. They look like they are foam.
 
Thanks Sealy, Yes, they do look well built. Aluminum framing around the speakers, etc. The backs are held on by screws, so should make for easy disassembly. I'm planning to re-foam both woofers and mids. Once I check out the cross overs I might do something there also. My first attempt at this. Wahoo.
 
Rear opened

Took the back cover off. Held on with regular brass plated wood screws. Several sheets of foam laid in. The backs of the speakers are marked "TONSIL Made In Poland" . The cross over has what looks like an automobile tail light bulb soldered in. Here are more pics.

I see you did a "Tonsilectomy". Crossover components look good as well. Air core inductors, quality caps. I think that lightbulb is your fuse, protection against overdriving.

I doubt you're going to see another pair of those. Hold on to them.

Lots of info on contemporary Tonsil equipment on the Web.
 
Hey Sealy, Almost looks to be home built inside there. Yes, I also looked up "Tonsil" on the web. Seems to be a high end Eastern European speaker manufacturer that mainly caters to complete system builders. I will hang on to them.
By the way, I see you're in British Columbia. I'll be traveling through your area on a motorcycle next June. Looking to ride up to Inuvik, Yukon Territory.
 
Welcome udors! Showing LP's in the background in a pic and nudie's. Thanks for being here. Very nice and interesting speakers! Audio Lab sounds familiar from my youth or, am I thinking Audio Labs? Much info using the search function on the refoaming. I think you will get some responces on the crossover's, I 've never seen a light bulb in one before, very neat!

Update on speakers

Thought I'd update this thread. Learned an awful lot since I joined the AK group. Refoaming surrounds, recapping crossovers, and now repairing an SX-850. All that aside:
Finally found some proper size surrounds for these Tonsil speakers. Hooked them up to the SX-1250 and...WOW. They do justice. Comparing to the Large Advents (stacked sets) and my recently acquired Kenwood LS-990's. To my old ears, nice clear highs, midrange, lows, and efficient. They're keepers.
