1967 vintage marble top speakers?

Any idea of who made these? Description below...

Don't know if these are custom made or what. Under the marble tops the date of mfr is written in pencil. There's a small emblem showing a crown with a capital E under it on the front of each speaker. You tell me. 10" two ways. Sound good, crank out the bass & make nice tables too.

Allied is the company that I have seen....

I think that one other company made them, but it is not coming to me at this moment...

They seem to have been fairly pricey, and high end in their day, according to Orion.
I passed on a local pair last year for $30.00, as I have way too many big speakers

They are beautiful and well crafted. Their sound, unfortunately isn't so great.. But they are beautiful.

Maybe getting some NADs would help (for the original buyer).

We used to sell these back when I was 70salesguy. The sound is not great. The buyer was almost always some poor schmuck that wanted a good pair of speakers but had a real problem with WAF.

IMHO they would have been better off with a pair of Dynaco A25s, AR 2ax or JBL L-26s.

Empire did build some beautiful TTs, especially the 598. An absolute work of art to look at!

I bought a pair on the cheap just to get the marble for TT bases. I hooked them up for kicks, and the sound was :thumbsdn:

I wasn't planning on getting them when I posted. Just curious since I wasn't familiar with the cabs. I figured they were some variant of Sansui's vertical woofer firing at a cone for "perfect 360 dispersion". If I wanted true 360, I'd get a pair of Ohms (once I win the lottery...)
