Music on Blu Ray, or SACD Lives

2L is releasing a BR disc (with a bonus hybrid SACD disc included).

Included audio formats are:

Linear PCM 24/192 5.1 Surround
DTS HD Master Audio 24/192 5.1 Surround
Dolby TruHD 24/192 5.1 Surround

The recording is of pieces by a number of 20th century composers:

Bejamnin Britten: Simple Symphony
Grazyna Bacewicz: Concerto for string orchestra
Terje Bjørklund: Carmina
Béla Bartók: Divertimento for strings

On the publisher's website they said it was all that for the price of a CD - I see it isn't quite Naxos prices though

The music was originally recorded in DXD:

"Digital eXtreme Definition (DXD) is an audio encoding scheme for professional use that was developed for editing high-resolution recordings because DSD, the audio standard used on Super Audio CD is not ideally suited for editing. DXD is a PCM-like signal with 24-bit resolution sampled at 352.8 kHz – eight times 44.1 kHz, the sampling frequency of Red Book CD. The data rate is 11.2896 Mbit/s – four times that of DSD."

So there might be a slight technical advantage to the BR tracks because the original data was stored in a format closer to PCM. I don't think I could catch out any problems with either encoding though


It's a great way to have a copy for your home cinema surround system and a copy for your 2-channel SACD and other system, too, for those who have both.

That is a little steep, but I may buy one just for the novelty.
