Sweet reel to reel

Vintage TX

Analog forever
Been working on a Tascam 44 OB for a week and this is a good sounding 1/4 reel to reel machine.
Using 7-1/2 speed and DBX between no hiss or background noise at all.
Here is a picture:

Me too Celt:)
Started last night on a Teac 40-4 that I bought a year ago, that has been sitting waiting for parts, but finally finished it.
They have something magic + the Teac smell:p: after a good warmup.

Here are some more Teac's:
Teac A-3340 S on top of a Teac A-6010
Akai 1710 W on top of a Tascam 42 NB the 2-track model also built like a tank.

Nice Deck!!!!

Thats quite a collection of decks you have there. Wish you lived around here. Last year I had a 4300 that would not record. Did not have time and sold it. Sold a minty 2300. Went to a good home on Long Island. Bought a 7010 reel to reel. Need to adjust the brakes on it. Will not sell it. Its so big it would be very hard to pack it. As it was, the cabinet was slightly damaged in shipping. Any help on how to fix its brakes?

Just got done working on a TEAC 450 and a 460 cassette deck. You are right. TEAC's and Tascams are very special. I always liked them. Got the bug a few years ago and bought 4 reel to reels and 3 cassette decks. Now have the 2 cassette decks and a 450 parts unit. They are really easy to replace belts on. Seven screws and the bottom plate comes off. Two more screws and the capstan and flywheel comes out and you can get at all the belts. For a cassette they sound really good. Even though I have a CDR for the car I started making cassettes again. :D I hate the way a CDR sits there and thinks about whether it will record or not. All that copy guard crap! The 450 was $500 back in 1975! A lot of money then. My car was $800. I'd post pics but can't figure out how to get my camera on a lower setting to get this site to take my pic. Same with icons.

Have fun! Eric:D

Speaking of nice Teacs. Here's a Tascam #48 I repaired a few years ago. Eight tracks, 1/2" tape. Associated dbx units and a non-worthy mixer board.

Hi Eric,
Thanks for your comment:)
Your 7010 is the bigger model with 10 inch's reels, and if I remember right the reel-motors are the same as 3340 models with solenoid-operated brakes mounted on each motor.
There is 2 adjustment screws, but check the brake-band first, it could be dirty and just need cleaning Eric.
Do you have a spring-scale ?
Does one or both reel-brakes engage at all or is both spilling tapes ?

Celt, that is a sweet Tascam, I have searched for one but have not got lucky finding a decent project yet.
What mixer is that a Mackie or ?

Vintage, I'd have to go back into 2002's repair log to find what the mixer board was. The only thing I remember about it was that it was a complete POS from the get-go. Not worthy of being in the same company of the Tascam let alone a Sony Walkman.

Celt, that's funny:p:
Noticed one thing when combine mixers and add-on like dbx, Eq etc, best result is using Teac/Tascam products.
Just plug in and enjoy, no worries at all.
I dragged out my other mixer tonight to the shop M-30 and used it together with the 44 OB and 40-4.
Works great together, the board need some cleaning...

It will be my 3rd but i havent had one in 20 years my last one was a akia for the life i cant remember the model # Iam glad you posted again theres a a-2300 on ebay right know from the seller i got mine from he said he was buying a bunch of them to fix up for a hobby but his wife is having him get rid of them he will even record your favorite music on one of the reels that come with the deck. He is a real nice guy to deal with.

Great you going to spin some reels again Pioneer:)
$ 100.00 is cheap.
Poor guy... women and electronics does not always match..
I have a female friend in SC that just got hooked on reel to reel after finding her Dad's old tapes.
Bought a Kenwood amp and wired up 8 speakers around the house to enjoy the music.
