MCD-500 First Impression

Well my MCD-500 is now in my system. I hooked it up via balanced outputs to my C-200. I then connected my MS-300 using the digital input on the 500 to make use of the onboard DAC's.

From my previous thread you may remember the unit is replacing my Esoteric X-03se, while I was running the MS-300 thru Musical Fidelity's Tri Vista 21 DAC. I was able to eliminate an external DAC with this new setup.

Well the unit has only been on about 40 minutes so everything is just getting warmed up. First disc Alison Krauss "Live" SACD. Very good. Maybe a little better base than the X03. Next up, off the MS-300, Sarah McLaughlin. Very nice vocals. I would say better than the Tri Vista. Nils Lofgren "Live Accoustic" . Again, I think that the vocals thru the 500's DAC's are very good and natural.

It will be interesting when one of you who has the 1000 DAC is able to AB these units. I have only listened to the 1000 in stores and not in my home. I can only say Ron could be right. These new DAC's are very good.

Stillone........Very nice looking system, attractively set up. The MBL's are impressive, too. A couple more trees, and you'll need a bush guide to find the MCD500.

The MCD500 break-in will go on for some time, no doubt. Kindly keep us posted as it opens up. There is a great deal of interest in this player. You are our prototype tester.

Thanks for the comments. I will keep you posted as it breaks in.

MBL in their set-up manual actually suggests placing objects between the speakers and the back wall.

Since I switched from the 402 to the 501's, I had to move my equipment around and am not happy with the stacked C-200. I am going to rearrange my racks from 2-wide and 3 high, to 2 high and 3 wide. That will give me space on the bottom for the c-200. Still not the best. Just need to purchase some longer interconnects.

Sometimes you just wonder if the left hand knows what the right hand is doing.

Today, my dealer checked with HQ's regarding my pre-order & he was informed that none have been shipped out yet -- probably early September.

Jeeze.:thumbsdn:
I know what you mean. I had left a e-mail with my dealer last week, and he replied early Thursday morning that they would start shipping at the end of the month. It showed up at his door that morning 8/21. Very lucky indeed.

Sweet!

Very, very nice unit and very nice system indeed.

I like the brushed look Mc has given the rear apron of the MCD500. For some reason, I was thinking there were more than two digital inputs for the DAC. I guess if we want that, we have to go for the MDA.

Very nice setup, Stillone. It looks simply beautiful!

Congrats on the new MCD500. The pics look fantastic.

My local McIntosh dealer says he has a MCD500 on order for the store. As soon as they get it in I'll be taking it home for a comparison with my MDA1000. :thmbsp:

Great. Looking forward to that comparison. The DAC's in the 500 are a lot better than my Tri Vista was, especially on the low end.

Nice and biG. Thanks! Beautiful set-up.
