Fisher Console ID?

Found this on my local CL, part of an estate sale. Going to best offer. It looks as though it might be a Custom Electra VI from '63. I thought it might make a nice credenza for my office. Anyone have an idea as to what it is or worth?

Hmmm.....

That tuner/preamp section looks much like a 440T/460T, of which I have one each. They are chock full of yummy Telefunken 12AX7's, and if it's the 460-A amp, it is a 6BQ5 PP amp worth at least $100 by itself on E-Pray, especially if the Fisher outputs are european made, as were my Fisher branded Mullards.....:thmbsp:

If it is this amp, it's a beatch to get up and running as a stand alone piece, since it has some sort of voltage doubling circuit in it, and requires a high wattage resistor (300-300 ohms/10 Watts) across the filaments IIRC because that part of the circuit is tied into the preamp....:thumbsdn:

I might just buy it and try and keep it intact, except for replacing the stylus, crossover caps or even the speaker components.....

Go take a look. Bring a screwdriver and a flashlight. Check out the tubes. Take a camera, cause the Fisher fans, like Red1 might like some pix, and might be potentially useful for databases.....

If my WAG is right, potentially worth a couple of Benny's if completely stripped and sold off...:thumbsdn:

Or you might pick it up for $50-$100 and restore it, and keep it....:thmbsp:

Thanks for your input AA, it is appreciated as always! Do you think $50 would be a fair offer? They need to be rid of it by Friday as there is a closing on the house on that day.

I always hope to pay somewhere between $20-$50 for consoles if possible. Price commensurate with condition of course......:thmbsp:

I heard back from the seller this morning. He will accept $50 if I pick it up this evening. Oh man, what am I getting my self in for? :scratch2:

I picked it up last night and it turns to have a 490-T preamp/tuner with MPX-65 multiplexer, 480-A amp and a Garrard T-6 turntable. So far, I've been unable to find any real information for that amp. All I know thus far is that it has four EL84/6BQ5's and two 12AX7/ECC83's and the tuner/preamp has six 12AX7's, two 6BA6's, one 6AU6, one 6HS6, one 6BE6, and one 6AQ8.

Nice! If you plan on using the equipment sans cabinet(as I would), DONT trash it, especially if as clean as it looks! Find a place to store it, it wont take up much room.
 
I have no plans to cannibalize this unit, I merely want to restore the electronics back to their former glory. I really want to keep it as a unit. Plus, the amp chassis has a pair of double-pole, double-throw knife switches for using external speakers. I have no idea if this was a modification the previous owner made or not. I purchased the unit from his estate and his daughter said he was something of an electronics tinkerer and had purchased the unit new.

Congrats! Try posting some good detailed pix in the Fisher console thread started by TheRed1, and also go and join the Fisher Yahoo group. That should get you started....:thmbsp:

Otherwise, I'd pull the amp, replace the coupling caps to start with, cook it, and run it up on a variac as per the sticky in this forum....:yes:

Got my "new" Bogen AP-200 at 90 VAC as we speak, and looking forward to hearing what it sounds like with output tubes and speakers soon....

BTW, what kind of tubes are in it?:scratch2:

Wow, I have so much to learn. Coupling capacitors? :dunno: Where the heck do I find those? I will be making the "Poor Man's Variac" this weekend after I've pulled the 2 chassis out for cleaning. I thought I might pull (and label) the tubes and leave them out for the first ramp-up power-on test. I've started a thread over in the Tube forum as well. I'm going to need a lot of guidance as this is totally new territory for me. Thanks so much for your support and reassurance in my purchase judgement.

PS: I'll give ya an ID on the tube mfg. when I get the chassis pulled.

In re-inspecting the unit, the knife switches are actually mounted between the two chassis, not actually on the 480-A chassis itself. Just another example of my "Olds-Heimerz" kicking in. What did I have for lunch today?:dunno: Oh boy, this is going to be an adventure!
