1962 FISHER E-46 Custom Electra V -- help??

I just acquired the E-46 console in good shape, but I need the schematics or service manual for it. It has the 460-A amplifier/power supply chassis and the 460-T Tuner chassis. I sure would appreciate copies from some lucky soul who has them out there - or maybe a lead as to where
I might find them.

Here are the amp and its power supply from the similar 440A. Same tubes I think...

Dave: It's not as pristine as yours -- dust on chassis the same, but your cabinet is terrific. Mine is the dark color, modern style. I'll get some photos when I separate it from the other stuff in the basement. I really enjoyed reading about your resto -- good post! and I look fwd to more chapters as you proress. Yours really is a beauty! What electronic work do you need to do??

Tom-- Yessiree: same tubes...... In my set the 100mfd filter to ground shorted and cooked the transformer....trying to resurrect it but need the plate voltages on the 6BQ5s to get the new xfmr right. Thanks very much for your help................

You might....

..want to drop a post in the Fisher Console thread by TheRed1. My 460-T/460-A/MPX-70 caused him a bit of consternation because it didn't fit into his data bank.

Also, if you manage to find a schematic of the 460-T/460-A, I would greatly appreciate a copy. I've been looking for one for at least a year now, and haven't even been able to find one on the Fisher group at yahoo.....:no:....:tears:

I'm not really sure as this is my first foray into tube equipment. I would suspect that a re-cap is definitely in order and I have one pair of mis-matched tubes on the amp chassis. From my reading I think that the hum, I am getting from one channel, may be due to a failing capacitor. But for now, I am really enjoying my Fisher.

That's my next project. My 9090DB is now in need of some servicing. I'm going to attempt a thorough cleaning and replacement of the fusible resistors on the driver board. I also need to fix whatever problems there are in the protection circuit. Even though it was working when I got it, the protection light never went "green".

Take a look at replacing the main filter cap(s) in the power supply. Seems like that is always the first place to look....

Do a search on the 9090db green/red LED. There's a single resistor that needs to be changed, not withstanding any other problems. I have a step-by-step thread with pix posted in the Sansui forum. Lots of threads on the fusistor replacement.

Just don't do what I did, and use carbon film resistors on a 9090db with other problems. I nearly pissed my pants when one of those resistors went up in flames.....:yikes:

Lucky I still had the lid off.....:thmbsp:

Yessir, I've already printed off your step-by-step thread on the protection circuit fix. It will, I'm certain, be a God send! I'm all stocked-up on both flavors of Deoxit and have an assortment of metal-film (non-flammable) resistors at the ready. One of my employees has de-soldering equipment and experience with work on PCBs. I'm certainly going to take my time as this particular 9090DB is a one-owner piece in fantastic cosmetic condition.

Hi AA: Roger the 460s schematics -- I think I have a lead on a set. They're like the Dead Sea Scrolls --- toughtest search I've had to find them. I'll let you know when I get them.............

I've talked to TheRed1 (in my search) and he was helpful......I'm new to forums and I'm amazed at the vast knowledge and willingness to chip in and help out. Sharp, really helpful guys!

Also to Dave in CT: I agree with AA's good steer on the filter caps
--those cans are paper/wax filled and are almost 50 years old. On my chassis, besides the 100 mfd short to ground, one of the three cans had hardened tan colored goop oozing out the bottom -- a sure sign they all are tired and need replacing. I've done that and it was a tight fit under the chassis -- almost went to a separate fiberboard mounting outside the chassis, but this should do the job. Good luck on the 9090 -- knock on something, my 8080 has been bulletproof and ageless. best, steve

You are already miles ahead of me. Although I have the schematics for my amp/tuner chassis, this is my first step into tube audio. I couldn't tell a filter cap from a rectifier. I am truly a newbie to this stuff. I agree that the wellspring of information here and the willingness of the members to help is amazing. I'm just not sure if anyone has the patience to hand-hold me through the rest of my resto. So, please post plenty of step-by-step pics as you go through yours, I hope to garner enough knowledge from you (and others) to not ruin my new prize.

experiment. I, in turn, am going to get to learn how to add pictures to my posts, quote little sections of a post like you do, and the nuances of this forum stuff. You've got your hands full , I think, with the 9090DB work, so enjoy your Fisher and when you're ready to do the filters, let me know. Meanwhile, I'll get
some pix tomorrow, pull the tuner chassis, and do some learnin'

I did have one of my other tube buddies send me a set of E-49/Electra VII schematics. However, my 460-A uses 2 7247's instead of 12AX7's, so I'm still lookin'....:tears:
 
Jeepers--I thought I replied to you last night, but it didn't come up on the thread.......did you get a reply from me talking about doing the resto on your fisher and your probably doing your 9090
first?? I'll be gald to help you on the fisher.......steve

good. If I can find an E-46 service manual I'll sure let you know.
