Help to Identify Fisher Console

Greetings!

I have a friend who owns a very nice old Fisher tube console with a tuner, tape deck, phonograph, control console, etc. I was hoping that I could get some help from the AK members knowledgeable about these units to help identify the model type and year, specs and model of the tuner and the amp. The turntable is a Dual and I believe the R2R is an Ampex. Please check out the photo's and tell me whaqt you can about the unit. Thanks!

Wow, that one looks a lot like the Philco console my Dad purchased in 1963 - but far nicer. I've gotten to like that semi-modern design with the wooden feet. We'd call it Scandanavian these days, I suppose.

The TT looks to be an Elac/Miracord - not a Dual. Yes, that's a nice Ampex tape deck with the auto-thread feature. This was meant to make it easier to load a tape where you fed the tape end under the head stack and into that little slot where the right-hand take up reel would then grab it and pull the tape onto the reel itself. It wasn't that effective, though, and was dropped a bit later as a feature.

I'm not that much up on the Fisher stuff but I'm sure others will get that sorted out. Thanks for posting the pics, which helps in IDs.

How about getting a couple of pics of the speakers. I suspect the whole thing was assembled by a dealer for the customer.

My, my though, that cabinet is very well cared for.

WOW! What your very lucky friend has there is a 1963 Fisher Regent. Second down from Fisher's flagship: The President. The Regent cost $1,197 in the Modern cabinet (walnut) back in '63. The preamp is an X-202-B as seen here at the Fisher Doc's website:

I have the tuner listed as an R-200 which may be what the Fisher Doc lists as an FM-200. I don't know what power amp is contained within but it's sure to be something special. A lot of folks here would sure like to see inside that cabinet if you could persuade your friend. Is the console's ownership history known?

I'm still trying to catch my breath - truly a very rare and fine old console.
 
Correction: The X-202-B is an INTEGRATED amplifier as noted in this x-ray comparison between the Regent and the President:

Both came with the Miracord 10 turntable and Pickering U38/At cartridge.
Both had 12" woofers and (2) 5" midranges but the President had a dome type tweeter whereas the Regent had a regular 3.5" tweeter.
Both had the same outstanding tuner.
Both came with Ampex 1250 R2Rs.

The President had 45 tubes whereas the Regent only had 37.

Curious how your friend's Regent has the amp and tuner positions reversed.
 
Thanks for your replies. My friend's family are the original owners. The unit is imaculate with very little scratches or nicks, no snags on the grills. We were joking about looking into the back to see the tube compliment which is all original. However the unit is EXTREMELY heavy! I'm just going to guess it's weight at 400 lb or more. The unit sees very little use except for a nice piece of furniture.

It is definately the Regent. It has that name on the amp. If you look real close at the second picture, you can barely make out the name "Regent" in the upper right hand corner. I saw it very clearly yesterday.

What is the tube compliment in the 202? Do they have the 7591 power tubes?

The X-202-B is a great integrated amplifier. It's one notch down from the X-1000, which is considered one of the best tube integrated amplifiers ever made.
