It's been a loooooong time since I have seen a Marantz receiver that fits into my budget, but today as I was surfing ebay of all places, I found one to pair with my New Large Advents and make me a third system.

One of my favorites and yours, the 2285b...

Even if there is some issure, there is enough left in the value of the receiver to fix it..I doubt there will be though judging from the sellers feedback rating..

That is one of my very favorite receivers, too (which is why I like keeping two or three of them... :D). I think you made a very wise purchase on that one; it may have some issues, but it looks like a good one, from an apparently good seller. Do the usual DeOxit, recap, replace lights, etc... and you are in for a very special treat, as I'm sure you know! :music: :yes:

Now you can start looking for a wooden case for it...

There's an ebay seller that is always selling new replica cases in walnut or cherry that look outstanding. He only charges $125 for them which is as much as most people sell the original old ones for.

When the time comes, I will probably buy one of the replica ones.:thmbsp:

Congrats! I hope the unit is in good working order. I listened to (one of) my 2285B's today with a Dual 1219 TT for a couple hours in my home-office today. Didn't get a lot done except enjoy tunes.

What speakers are you using with the 2285b? I imagine you using the NS-200's...:scratch2:

Believe it or not, I was using a pair of older KLH mini-speakers. Before you snicker too much, they have fat magnets and sound great. My NS-200M's have moved on because of space considerations and not because I didn't like them. I never tried the combo because I always thought the four martini sound wouldn't match the transparency of the 200M's.:scratch2:

Good idea. Those cases are not rocket science to duplicate, and a new one done right will look great! :thmbsp: Replica cases are also available here. Price is lower, but after you factor in shipping, about the same. I've thought of getting one, but so far I've had good luck finding enough original ones "in the field" to keep at least my favorites wearing wood. It's a lot cheaper that way, as the wood cases add almost nothing to the price in the wholesale market, so they come dirt-cheap when you find them.

Alright..I'm guilty!! I temporarily put my lust for Marantz on hold in order to fund my Kenwood seperates...The problem is, now I want the big Marantzi that can take down the Kenny's, which are VERY expensive...:smoke:

You know, my white elephant is a Marantz 500. I have lusted after one of those forever. But anytime you see one for sale they sell for $2k +.

Someday, someday...:rolleyes:

Funny thing is, a Marantz 2245 is exactly the receiver that started me on this crazy path..:thmbsp:
