Hello AKers,

Just finished up the restoration on these KLH Sixes. Recapped the crossovers, installed new binding posts, redoped the surrounds with Elmer's rubber cement, stripped and refinished the cabinets with Watson's Danish Oil. Grills are original, just vacuumed them. These are nice, heavy speakers and sound good too.

what did you use for caps ?

also, what technique did you use to refinish them (sanding / etc ?)

I have a pair of 6's that will need the refinish treatment soon enough . . .
 
Man, don't you just love how the walnut pops with a fresh finish? Absolutely beautiful job, BmWr75! :thmbsp:

I didn't sand them at all. Stripped them with CitruStrip Stripping Gel. Then rubbed them with 000 steel wool and applied Watco Danish Oil in dark walnut color according to the directions on the can.

Used these capacitors from Parts Express:

Dayton DMPC-2.0 2.0uF 250V Polypropylene Capacitor - 2 in parallel
Dayton DMPC-8.2 8.2uF 250V Polypropylene Capacitor - one

I used Daytons on a pair of AR2AX's I did a while back and they sounded very nice. I have 2 pair of KLH 6's to do if I ever get around to ordering caps for them . One pair is blonde and the other Walnut or Early American I believe. I also us Watco on some of the stuff I refinish. I used the natural on a pair of JBL 100's and it really gave the cabinets depth and vibrant color which they did not show off in the original drab walnut finish. A couple of coats of wax on top helps to protect the finish and adds depth. Watco has a satin wax , I also used minwax wax and alternate them in application using up to six coats to add depth.
