Goodmans "the Havant" model: anyone heard of these?

I found a pair of these speaker (3-way) cabs a few years back, and cannot find any information on them. Will supply pic(s) when I can get them...they are currently on loan.

Any information would be appreciated!:)

Goodmans "The Havant"

Are these the speakers GuitarSlam?

A pair just sold on UsedVictoria.com for $40. The copy from the ad says:

"Super-clear sound with these legendary British speakers. Cabinets have scratches, but otherwise they are in good condition. These stand 19" tall X 10-1/2" wide x 10" deep.
Specifications:
Nom. Power Input: 20W
Maximum Input: 15W
Impedance: 4 Ohms Sens. 4-4W"

Hmmm...may be a few typos in there.

Another link indicates made by Goodmans Loudspeakers Ltd., Havant, England.

Not one of Goodmans' better models I'm afraid. I can't remember the name, but Goodmans used the same driver complement minus the midrange in the same size cabinet - I had a pair.

The tweeter is decent, but the woofer has a rather small magnet and voice coil, meaning bass is pretty slack and can be boomy.

Yep.

The Havant, Magnum, Achromat and Mezzo SL used that Philips AD0100 (I think!) polycarbonate dome, and the Quartet series had a different black mylar dome Philips tweeter.

Earlier Goodmans (e.g. Maxim) used the paper cone Economax tweeter or Trebax/Midax horn.

The information and pic provided have pretty much answered my question.
I thought my speakers stated 20W nominal / 40 watts peaks, but this is pretty much irrelevant... They were a $10 thrift shop find, and sounded decent with a Sansui AU-7500, set up in a bedroom (I didn't need a lot of volume in that place). I'll be visiting these speakers at my brother's place tomorrow night :).

I own a pair of goodmans 'minster sl' small 2 way speakers, I really like their sound. most goodmans speakers means quality and well built. For that price, nice find.
 
Twetter Goodmans

Good morning,

I have a pair of Goodmans Havant, the twetter are Philips, is it normal?

If it's not do you have the reference of original twetter?

Yep, the Philips AD0160/T8 polycarb dome is standard and completely normal. Some later models had a different Philips tweeter with a plastic phase plug over the front though.

Thanks to answer quikly, but do you know the efficient (rendement) of these speakers in 4hom. I have a LEAK 2200 and with it they sound very well, i think it 'll be better with my old Scoot valve amplifier LK48 18w/pc. Wath do you think about that?

(sorry for my english)

With 4 ohm speakers, you want an amplifier with more power. 18 watts is probably not enough - stick with your LEAK amp, and find some more efficient speakers to use your Scott amp with.

A small correction to an earlier post in this thread. The earlier Magnums, Mezzos, etc., didn't use a Philips tweeter or any outsourced speakers and were a high quality product. A later version of the Magnum was the same in name only and was a much more cheaply made speaker. By then Goodmans was ceasing to be the high quality speaker manufacturer it had been.
 
I had a pair of Goodmans 12" dual axium speakers in the mid 60's, they really had a good sound.They were custom mounted in bass reflex cabinets, the same size as the AR 3's. I eventually gave them to my mother-in-law and she loved them. She kept them until she passed away, when the family cleaned out the house they got lost. Later on I picked up a pair of Goodmans Sterling speakers, very clean sounding speaker, my son-in-law has them now. I don't know what they are making today, I think they aren't active here any longer.
