nice speakers. Used to carry a 10 year warranty- now it's only 5, due to beancounters?

I've owned them. Very enjoyable. Cone tweeter but a very good application of one. One of henry kloss' last designs- henry, you most likely know, was with AR, KLH, and Advent.

I know Henry. I've owned the New Ensemble III for longer than the old 10 year warranty, those speakers are my HT setup (although I just added a Dayton powered sub this year). also, the little white PC Works satellite computer speakers with the powered subwoofer that came with a lot of computers is great sounding for the price. I use them at work every day!
 
I bought a pair of refurbished model 6's.....direct from CSW.....for $90 in 2006.
VERY good for the money IMO.

I wonder if a pair of these CSW Model 6's stacked would get close to that stacked Advent sound given they are both 2 ways designed by Henry Kloss. Has anyone tried them stacked?
 
OK, gang, you've talked me into it. I ordered a pair today, and got it for an additional $10 off!

Let us know how you like them. I have two Henry Kloss designed speaker systems, KLH 6 and AR 4x. It is amazing how similar they sound when A/Bing them. If Henry, bless his soul, had a hand in these, as the guys are saying, the sound will be very smooth and with a touch of warmth plus a decent bottom end. They should go great with your Marantz 2245 receiver. Let us know!:music:
 
One of the coupon sites had the 10% off code listed. It's welcome10. Just enter it when checking out. I ordered two pairs to try them stacked. Hard to resist two pairs for $30 more than the regular price of a single pair. The Model 6's have been on my list of affordable speakers that everyone seems to really like for a long time. At $89 a pair I couldn't resist giving them a try. Worse case is I pay return shipping and send them back for a refund within 30 days. If they sound at all like my Smaller Advents or Advent III's I'll be keeping them. The 6's are more efficient than the either of my Advents and they are 8 ohms instead of 4 ohms like the Smaller Advents so just about any decent receiver should be able to drive a stacked set without much difficulty. My only worry is that I'll like them so much I have to order more before the sale ends : ).

I'm looking forward to trying them with the four different receivers/amps I have accumulated recently. I'll post a review.

There has been a Xover mod for those speakers, running around on the DIY forums for quite some time now.
Basically, it involves replacing the original Xover components, with BETTER components of the SAME value.
Yeah.....doing the mod WILL void the warranty.
I spent about $40 for the parts at Madisound......Bennic Poly caps, Sidewinder inductors, and Mills resistors.
Less than two hours with a soldering iron from start-to-finish.
The difference between a stock CSW model 6 and a modded CSW model 6 is NOT subtle......especially in dynamic range.
Really opened them up IMO.
For a pair of $90 speakers (I wouldn't do this with $1000 KEF speakers), I figured it was worth a shot?
I have NOT regretted that decision.

Received my new set of Model Six's today. Just started breaking them in, so I'm reserving judgment for a while. they are going to stay at my work, and they are replacing Klipsch B-2's, (which aren't bad for their size) they will be going to yet another work location...
 
I bought a pair of CSW 6s a few years back, before the vintage bug bit me. After checking out some vintage Kloss speaker designs, including different Advent and KLH models, I sold the CSW 6's. Too new, I thought at the time.

I regretted letting them go soon thereafter, and today I bought another pair. For $99, they are very very good sounding speakers. Vintage warmth at a modern big box store price.
 
Thanks for the info about the xover mod!

Mine arrived yesterday and are hooked up. They are running today while I'm at work breaking in. I'll post a review over the weekend. My initial listening left me very impressed (more so with the single set than with them stacked) and eager to hear them after break-in.

It looks like they are back to the $149 regular price. Anyone who didn't grab a pair of these for $89 ($99 sale price plus the $10 off welcome10) code IMHO missed one heck of a deal. I thought the sale would run through Christmas.
 
My speakers are breaking in nicely, and sound pretty good...although I can't pump too much power here at work! (except the two hours in the morning I'm here before anyone else arrives :music:

the price per pair has gone back up to $149, but when they were on sale the website said they would be on sale for one week only. Glad I got them when I did :thmbsp:
 
I owned these, as well as the Model 17 they sometimes sell. I enjoyed them both when I had them.

Wish I had tried the x-over mod when I had 'em. I've been told it makes a substancial difference.
 
Good for you, sometimes you just have to move on things. I did some measuring in my living room, and found that I couldn't fit them into my cabinet, so I had to pass .
 
I used the Model 6 in my bedroom for years. I used these guys with an Arcam Alpha 7 integrated with the 7 cd player. They were augmented by a PSB sub. They sounded fantastic. They got out of the way and were always enjoyable, even after vacating my main listening room with the Aragon/Alon IVs. I wish I still had my model 6s!
 
Most natural sound budget speakers I've bought.
I love mine. I have them hooked to a 80's Kenwood integrated amp and a Akai AP-D2 TT
 
After living with mine for a few months now I decided that they don't work so well stacked but on their own they are excellent. I ended up keeping both pairs. One is on my desk (it's a 6x3" 500lb Steelcase) and I bought a set of stands for the other set. I have them setup so I can sit in the papasan in my office and listen. I'm running both off the Yamaha RX-496 that was the extra in a CL deal. Not a vintage setup and not a high dollar one but it's the one I'm sticking with for a while. It sounds fantastic.

The Model 6's definitely opened up after some break in time. Someday I will try the cross-over upgrade but for now I'm just leaving everything as is.
