help Identifying Pioneer Vintage speakers

I found a set similar to these around 6 months ago and passed on them because there was no way for me to identify them at the time and I didnt want to lug two monsters like this home and not have a clue as to what they were. But two weeks ago I found another set, this time with the manufacturers logo badge. They are definitely Pioneers but I cant find any info back that far. Anyone have a model number or a link to somewhere where I might find out what I have. They sound pretty good. They will be nice for the bedroom id presume. Just wish I had a better idea of what I got and when they were made. Thanks in advance.

never seen ANY pioneers like that, but they look pretty early in Pioneer history . . .

my guess is some Vietnam Vet bought those in the 60's and brought 'em back to the states :scratch2:
 
I've seen something very similar once, probably the same model. Never heard them and it was before I was into vintage gear so I can't say I paid too much attention to them. They look cool.

I think I have seen that woofer used with a Pioneer multicell horn more recently now that I think about it.
 
Those are really nice.

I want something like that that so bad. I can never find anything like that in my area, and to pay shipping for something that large is out of the question.

How do they sound compared to newer speakers?
 
Those are really nice cabinets and they look like nice speakers! Wish I could help with the id.

Well I just got around to hooking them up tonight on a small reciever and they appear to be quite power hungry, sort of flat till you get them singing then they sound good. Not much at low volume though, but im sort of spoiled with my main speakers which are so efficient that Im not used to a speaker that doesnt get in your face with the slightest turn of the volume pot, but i dont really have them hooked up to much to be honest. Im gonna try them on the main system tomorro when the wife isnt watching TV and see what they will do with some power sent into them.

Odd, those should be very efficient. I bet the XO network needs rebuilt.
 
There defiantly the coolest looking speakers I've seen posted in the last month. In my book, thats a really nice find.

Ditto.

Inductors prolly OK, but caps are ancient. Put poly caps in there and some poly-fill batting on the interior walls (a bit of acoustic dampening). Drive them with decent amps (sufficient headroom) and I'll bet they sound good :)
 
I like those.They look like their from the end table speaker era.I'll bet those are some very rare speakers and you said this the second pair you have come across?

They appear to be 16 ohm. Have you checked impedance?

It is the second pair. The first was in daytona, they were stacked up on top of each other in a corner of a thrift shop, you could open the doors but thats about it. There was no logo on them and theres no identification on the back and since I already had a van full of stereo gear I passed on them since I had no idea who made them. We are going back to inlaws at christmas so if these dont sound too bad I might swing by there are see if by some chance they are still there:banana:. If anyone is in the daytona area Ill gladly point you in the right direction, I dont need another set but will definitely take them if they are still stuck in that shop. Id rather they get used that just sit there doing nothing.
