looks like a foster tweeter. interesting crossovers. how do they sound?

I had a pair of those a while back.They were very decent sounding.The paper cone was separated from the edge on both woofers.I had to glue them both down.I wished I had them now as I never really gave them a chance on different sources but they were very unusual looking and sold them.Those yours?

The mid in the one pictured is buzzing badly and has been worked on before. The woofers have been toyed with and re-glued a few times before I got them. They sound good. Pretty balanced but lean to the bright side. The tweeter sounds better than I thought it would and is clear and crisp. I'm going to get these to 100% and setup right before I make any real evaluations but in a crappy setup with a buzzing mid I can tell they are good enough to futz with. Odd looking speakers but well built and have nice veneer / grills.

The Square magnet woofer indicates they are the older version, which is a bonus in my view.
The tweeters are Foster, and can be swapped with the one commonly seen in Zenith Allegro speakers.
The E50's were my favorite of the range, with the bigger E90's a close second.
As an aside, in the model number, the "E" stood for "Efficiency" and the trailing two digits were the nominal cabinet volume in liters. The E90, however, actually had a 110-liter cabinet on the consumer version, and 120-liters in the pro version.
For a British speaker, they really were rather iconoclastic. Not in any way associated with the polite monitors and mini-monitors of IMF, KEF, or B&W. These were somewhat raw and in-your-face, and clearly designed for an American audience, or to steal sales from the likes of JBL domestically.

Interesting you say that, as there are practically no vintage JBLs over here. I've seen three or four pairs on ebay in the past year...all the rest are newer Control 1's, 25's and the like.
I'm pretty sure that if E series were aimed more at stealing JBL's sales, they should have been sold a lot more over in the US given the very low number of JBLs that made it over here.

They do sound similar to my JBL L100's. I'll do a comparison once they are 100% and setup right. I have several vintage Wharfedales and have been looking for some of this series (after seeing one of your posts M Jarve) because they are so different from their vintage offerings and i wanted to see what was up.

I've got (or, I should say my dad has, but I frequently listen to) a set of these E50s. The woofer surrounds have separated from the cabinet, and we've tried re-gluing them on more than one occasion, but that hasn't helped much. What do you guys use to do that job?
