I have a chance to buy an integrated amp, tuner, cassette deck and TT, the seller says from about 1981. He is not sending me model numbers so I am at a loss determining if this stuff is any good. I know some of the MCS stuff is pretty decent but all I've seen is silver face. Anyone familiar with these? Power rating, build quality?? He says the TT needs a belt.

The Sony plastic speakers come with it, maybe use em for target practice. :D

They do look awesome, question is whether it's more than skin deep.

The Sonys belong in the Smithsonian, no doubt.
 
I can't tell if that's the 3700/3701 or the 3710 tuner. I'd take it either way. But if it's the 3710, it could be a major sleeper.
 
If the price was right, I'd grab them! I recently sold a 3700 tuner, and I thought it was a very nice piece of gear. The 3700 is a re-badged NEC tuner. Only bummer IMO was the fact that it has rack handles, but is not drilled for rack mounting! I guess they were just going for the "look" of rack mount gear.

The whole kit and kaboodle for fifty clams is the deal. Sounds like it's worth it.

Whenever i hear of somebody ohh so hapy with his MCS, I get mad. It reminds me how I got ripped off by some scammer from ebay Germany, selling a BASF (which was in fact an NEC/MCS) integrated amp. It was BEAUTIFUL, and that boils my blood. :tears:

From the all metal:smoke: looks of it you could tell is sounds robust...just right...

I had the same system with a slightly better TT, paid about the same for it too with a the stand and matching speakers. But I ended up selling it all eventually, it was OK, appeared to have been made by Sanyo.
 
I just don't see much gear with any coolness factor around here for cheap, so I'm tempted even though I don't really need another system. But eventually someone I know will need one for themselves or their kid, and this looks too good to pass up. Actually the neighbors need a TT right now...
 
I'm envious....that was a nice system back in 1978-79. Did you get the 3835, 45, or 65? If the tuner is the 3710, then you got a rare, GREAT tuner (the 3700 or 3701 weren't bad either).

While NEC built the components, your TT is built by Hitachi (a 6502?). A decent belt drive, but the TOTL TT for that system was the DD 6700 built by Technics.

$50 was a steal, IMO.
