Any ideas who made this

If the speakers are "wireless" (i.e., the electrical connection is through the hinges), it's most likely a GE. Does indeed look like it.

i've seen GE versions with crappy components, but this one looks a lot older and the turntable actually looks nice. might be magnavox? KLH? who knows....

I think GE may of made something like that with the fold out speakers

My sister had a GE like that when I was growing up, maybe '69 or '70. Had white vinyl covering it. Seemed flimsy to me though and it was very light. I am sure it was solid-state. The one in the picture looks much more solid and appears larger too.

I'm gonna try to go see it today. Price is good, so I may just use it for my HK Ballad if it is not tube. John

I picked it up today. For all who guessed GE you are right. For those who guessed SS, wrong. It is tube. I will post pictures once I sneak it out of the back of the van. It was plugged in when I picked it up, but only getting sound from the right speaker on radio. Will need a going over/ tube check. Wood is in great shape. John

Here are a few pictures. It is still in the car until later, so I don't have model info. Can't wait to see what tubes it has in it. My first small step into consoles. John

Pulled some tubes. So far 4 Realistic with gold pins. Is an 7189A the same as a EL84M?
1-12AX7/2-7189A/1-5Y3GT. There are more in the tuner section.

yes 7189 should be like an EL84M, but 7189 is the real deal- best of the 6bq5's. Not sure of the brand though, any other markings on the tubes?

The tuner by the way looks surprisingly similar to my GE 1435 tuner that was made for Voice of Music. Is it a separate unit, or does it have the amp built in?

The tubes are marked 7189A Realistic Lifetime, Made in Great Brittan, with gold pins. The 12AX7 tested very good. Still have to do the others. Is it possible to test this with 6BQ5's? I have many of them. That is if the 7189A tubes are not good. When powered up when I went to buy it, only the right channel was working. Could be a tube or bad speaker connection. It uses the copper hinges as the connections to the speakers.
I am sure it will need some caps. The amp chassis is not in a "box" but rather a plate mounted inside. There is a paper multi-section cap mounted next to it. That should make it easier to re-stuff. I need to locate a model# and look for a schematic.

Cool, I'll see if I can get the specs off the cap. There is a slight hum, but it is playing nicely. Needs some more switch cleaning as the sound is breaking up and goes in an out until I touch the source knob. Playing my iPod through the tape in. This thing is cool! Looks like a label fell off the back so I have no idea what model it is. I assume that because there are 2 7189a output tubes, it is SET?

Oh I know which one you are talking about now. I have seen a few of the internals on ebay. You probably do have the same tuner that I have then, does it have the MPX adapter too?

Save those 7189's! That made in great Brittan logo probably means Mullards or Amperex's!!

SET means single ended TRIODE. This amp would be Single ended PENTODE, but yes it is class A single ended.
