I've been thinking about this for a while now, and wanted to see what you other AKer's think.

I just fired up my Kenwood KA-1000, and it's a beautiful amplifier...Sigma Servo, Dual outboard power supplies, really nice sounding. But it's just not built as well as some of their older gear...this is when Kenwood was going through their non-magnetic chassis phase and the bulk of this amplifier is plastic.

SO, the question is, which is your favorite Kenwood flagship integrated (L-series models excepted for now...sorry theo ;) )

The options are:

Model 600 the lovely Supreme Series
KA-907 (Beast from the 80s)
KA-1000 (Pictured)
KA-3300D Kenwood's last mainstream flagship integrated

Ya, Why no KA-9100? The flagship of the late 70's.

I like the KA-907 because it is the successor of the KA-9100.

And because it has a lot of power and is very rare.
 
Well, I was thinking about that...it's a heck of an amplifier for sure, and built to the same general standard as the Model 500 and 600...God knows it outsold everything else on my list.

OK, let me try and modify my poll ;)
 
The 801 would fall where the 8100 is ranked.

But it is a very good amp!

The series that the 801 came from was the last of the great monster amp series that Kenwood made.
 
Well the idea here was to concentrate on Flagship...and in a given model year, there can be only one.

SO the 500, although great, is not the flagship...the 600 is.

The KA-801 is nice, but the KA-907 was the flagship in that line-up...

As for the 8100 and 8300, I think that's whay I left out the KA-9100...I believe that both the 8X00 amplifiers use discrete output stages, which the KA-9100 uses the unobtainium (but quite good sounding) Darlington Power Packs...which in some snobby back corner of my mind just don't say TOTL...
 
I forgot that the Supreme 500 is not a flagship. As for the KA-8300 and the KA-9100, both of them use unobtainium Darlington Power Packs. The KA-8100 use discrete output stages.

Snobby is pretty close but I don't want to start an argument. It is inaccurate to say that the 9100 wasn't the Flagship.
 
Well, i know it isn't TOTL but my KA-8100 still sounds fine AND never
was serviced:music:.
Never had to dexoit switches and pots (it is used almost everydays) and
i play with pots and switches often :yes:.
I bought it new in the 1980's.
 
It's difficult to say whether the 9100 was a true TOTL. TVK says that the Supreme 600 was made 1975-1979, which would make them contemporaneous with the 8006, 8300, and 9100. This would keep the Supreme 600 as TOTL until the introduction of its successor, the KA-907, in 1979.

I consider the L series to be its own critter, by itself in the annals of Kenwood-dom. Possibly the L-07M/C/T were the successors of the Supreme 700 M/C/T?
