I started this project with absolutely no plan. I wanted to build by the seat of my pants and see what turned out.

Free:
Stainless serving tray (found in basement)
Old (junk) Sony turntable
Dirt Devil (last used over 2 years ago)
Aluminium rod (left over from who knows what)
Hickory (left over from Teac 3340 project)
Laminated square stock (from a blown 138KV OCB at work)

Not Free:
3 matching switches via rat shack : $3.00

Instead of using fittings and pipe I wanted to try something different:

The suction tube pulls right off, so cleaning the album with cleaner and a brush is very simple.

I ordered a new nylon brush, and a new carbon fiber brush for about $20 each.

I guess if you include the cost of the brushes and the switches, the total is $43.00 :)

Now....

To find a good recipe for cleaner ..........:scratch2:

Now to buy one of those POS turntables that keep turning up at my local thrifts...I think that tiny DD Panasonic I saw for $3 will do just fine!
 
What is the pad on the metal suction tube made of? It seems more like a harsh scrubber than a cleaning material. I'm wondering if a short bristle of some sort might be more "proper" than a pad that might trap dirt. Not being critical here...I'm just trying to figure it all out before I make my own cleaning table. I think I'll be using a motor from an ice cream maker, though. I think the lower torque might be more robust...although fooling around with suction strength might work as well. By the way, your project really looks freakin' excellent.

Tell you what, I'll trade you a couple bottles of Ed's premium high powered disc warshin' fluid (along with recipe...hey I'm not cheap), for one of your models. :D

Seriously, that looks about ten times nicer than my Nitty Gritty at about one tenth the cost.

I cut the square out with a cutter wheel (not enjoyable). The holes were a real pain since it's stainless. I ended up using my drill press and lots of cutting fluid.
 
Curious how well the motor turns the table once the suction is turned on? NICE looking cleaner though!!!

That is one minor flaw....... errrrr.......[characteristic] of my project:D

The velvet under the suction pipe lets just enough air though to keep the album from getting stuck to the pipe itself.

I could always cut the end of the suction pipe off and use a record clamp too. I'm going to try this out for a while and see how it does.

As it sits now, it takes about 2 revolutions at about 15rpm to remove all the fluid.

The fluid is shot out the bottom and collects in a small plastic cup in the bottom

Version 2.0 will be direct drive, and have a pump to apply the cleaner:)
