Lightbulb Acoustic Research AR9 vs. Carver Amazing Silver

I have both here now, but won't be able to do a comparison between the two untill I get my six replacement woofers for the Carvers later this week.

So, in the meantime, what do you folks think I should expect?

I'm voting for the Carvers only because I know what the AR9 sound like.

I have a pretty good feeling the Carver's are going to blow the AR's out of the water.

I heard the Carver Amazings, the bigguns not silvers.... and owned the AR9

AR9 was too mellow sounding, and Amazings were too shrilly

tough call!

I think so too....Problem is I don't have enough big amps here...

So, the winner, is going to be biamped by my two 700m's in the big room and the loser, will have to "make due" on a 130WPC Sansui integrated..

Hmmm, ribbons vs. traditional drivers. I think it will come down to personal preference.

Have you re-capped the X-overs in the AR9s? It makes a BIG difference.

Plenty of power. The 700m's are rated for 170wpc @ 8 Ohms (216WPC on EW's bench at clipping)....I'm using TWO of them. Actively biamped, the Carver's will effectively be seeing the equivalent of a 680WPC or more!!!

Bob Carver himself recommends two amps rated at 150WPC @ 8 ohms or greater for actively biamping.

Do you know something Bob doesn't...

As for the AR9's, I am using the same two 700m's to passively biamp (as recommended by the AR9 manual) delivering no less then 440WPC to each speaker at 4 ohms.

Again, do you know something AR doesn't?
