Kenwood Supreme - KA-500 Same unit?

You are actually talking about the Kenwood Supreme 500. Their was no KA-500.

It is an amp from the Supreme series of amps and was the little brother to the Supreme 600. Both Supreme 500 and 600 were integrated amps. The Supreme 700 series amps were separates.

The Supreme 500 puts out 100wpc into 8ohms. This amp is a very rare and special amp. Not many were made. Here is info on the vintage knob of its big brother, the Supreme 600. You should maybe find info of the 500 to on the vintage knob.

Hope I could help you any.

Are these both the same? I can't seem to find any info on a KA-500 - are these 300 watts?

No, they're not the same the KA-500 is a low powered integrated from the
80's and not even close to the supreme 500. The KA-500 comes from a time when all the major manufacturers were cutting costs.

Yeah, the KA-500 was from a pretty neat series of 80s Kenwood gear that as far as I know was the first set that was remote controllable. The KD-4100R turntable and KT-500 Tuner all plug into the RC-500 remote control center...very cool.

The Supreme 500 on the other hand is a completely different beast and is MUCH better sounding and worlds better built.

Thanks everyone - It turns out that the amp this fellow had for sale was indeed a KA-500 with remote - not what I am looking for. Appreciate your input

And since the 500 looks a lot like the 600 and I didn't find a 500 picture on the web:

The KA-500 gets an undeserved bad rap. It's a totally discrete, (no IC amp module), 43 WRMS/ch integrated amp. It has a hokey motorized volume control, (conventional "slide" volume pot connected to an electric motor with a dial string), but is otherwise a nice amp. It looks cheap because of the "remote-control" styling. Dump the RC, and it's an amp that will stand, (fidelity wise), with many of it's contemporaries.

I suppose I have a soft spot in my heart for it because I own one, but it's a good amp. IMHO.

I'm sure it is. But for someone who thought they found a bargain on a piece of Kenwood Supreme gear, it might have been a letdown. ;)
