Luxman arrived damaged, Poor packing...

Good Morning,

The Luxman arrived yesterday and was packed poorly. The seller did what I asked up to a point. He did remove the platter and ripped off the counter weight (repairable). But there was just peanuts in a small box. It was dropped by UPS and the Plinth corner smashed in front. A small amount of bubble wrap would have saved this.:tears:

Oh well, I am still ahead on the damages... I contacted seller for filing a claim.

Will be a nice project. Have to repair the plinth too.

Those damned peanuts are worthless for packing......when will people learn?

The seller should give you a hefty price adjustment for poor packing.

I doubt that the shipper will take any responsibility because of the poor packing, so insurance is not likely to be a help.

Thanks, I think UPS did the packing, it is one of there boxes. I plugged it into the variac and the motor responed and the switches seem to work, so it is fixable.

I like the heavy platter, should look good once I polish it up.

Thanks,

Seems like if UPS packed it, they would have done a better job.

I hope you're saving the original packing materials in total.

Somebody should pay.

Your kidding rite? If they throw **** around like a bunch of idiots, do you think they would know how to PROPERLY pack a turntable.?

If it was packed by the UPS Store, you'll get your money back. File a claim, and keep pestering them for the status. Call the actual store that did the packing - they'll pay. It worked for me.

They shouldn't be allowed to pack anything, except if you are shipping styrofoam peanuts.....they may arrive undamaged.

As a fan of Luxman turntables, I am shocked and dismayed.
I've had my 264 for 26 years, and if anyone ever damaged it
I would most likely end up featured on "The Situation Room" with Wolf Blitzer.

The more I think about it........................HUNT HIM DOWN LIKE THE VERMIN HE IS AND.............

That's a drag. I've had problems with the UPS gorillas also!

UPS will indeed pay up, especially if they wrapped it. Just make sure to tell them that you want it repaired and not a full refund. No matter what, do not let them take it from your house.

I had a power amp that they dropped, which dented a corner. The shipper had to file the claim, and he did it the wrong way. UPS showed up at the house and told me that they needed to take it to have it inspected, and that they would ship it back. After 2 weeks, I got a check. after another week, they said that they no longer had it- they sent it to a factory in Utah as salvage! Apparently, that was a claim where they totally refund your money, but they keep the item.

The other type of claim is, someone shows up, looks at it to confirm it's damaged, then reports to UPS, where decide how much they owe you.

Speaking of bad packing , I just bought a Thorens, and I WISH the person used peanuts. They used (if you can believe it) gift wrapping paper! Like you, they only half listened to my instructions as well. Check it out.

They wrapped the dust cover in white linen and placed it back on top of the TT. Then, they removed the heavy platter, wrapped it in gift wrapping paper, and set it ON TOP of the TT and dust cover.

Ahhhh, turntable darwinism.

Good luck with your claim.

Thanks..

Thanks for your support. The seller has not written back, so I will take the loss to the next step. I can fix the Plinth and get her back looking pretty, Everything seems to be working. Just needs some TLC..

I will post the project when I am done..:thmbsp:

Thanks,

UPS will look at it this way - you want your $$ back from us - fine. We just bought the turntable - now give it to us. They then resell it to garbage mass marketers who will put it on ebay again. Happened to me. I sold a table to a guy. After a year, he sold it to someone else and it got trashed in transit. I spotted it on the 'bay & bought it.

mmmh... that doesnt help me understanding... ok, understand you, but not my original statement.
I wouldn't ship anything looking like that.

I hope this makes sense and doesn't offend anyone.
Because here in America there are certain people who just don't care if they can make a fast buck then so be it they will do it.
Or they see that joe blow got 200 bucks for a XXX turntable and they spot one and figure oh i can get 200 bucks to, plus once they get your money the want to blame there poor packing job on the shipper. It's called passing the buck and it's very popular here in the states. Of coarse there are sellers everywhere that aren't first class I'm not just pointing out America.
I know of one who lives in the land down under as well.:thumbsdn:

They just don't care about Audio the way we do. When I sell something it reflects on me and the way I live.

Go Figure!

I'v suggested this many times, ask the seller how they are packaging/shipping the turntable. If the reply is they are going to have it packaged/shipped by a UPS store tell them the deal is over and run. Right away you now know you are dealing with a clueless seller. Along with the seller the UPS store is just as clueless re packaging a turntable or just about anything else that is breakable. If the seller can't manage to find boxes/packing material on their own and follow simple instructions say goodby.

wow i pity you. i bought the same PX-100 and had them shipped trans-Pacific from US to Manila luckily nothing such as that happened to the TT.

When I move out a piece, may it be a TT, Cassette deck , what ever. I pack my own stuff. I have 100% no damage on all my sales! I use FedEx.
I did contact the seller before the sale and I was told he was packing it as I instructed, Platter off with counter weight. The damage is repairable and the price was right. Some sellers do not want to spend any money on packing and shipping. I do what ever it takes to make sure the item arrives safely.
