my 300B SET project

I've been working on this 300B for a couple of months now. I'm waiting for tubes and a couple of resistors and hope to have music and not smoke later this week. I'm using 2 7193 triodes and 1 300B. The OPT for now is a Hammond, I may upgrade to a Plitron if it sounds good. The power transformer is an Antek feeding a SS bridge rectifier through some 630V 47uf Solen caps and out to the tubes. I have a power delay hooked up just after the rectifier in the negative side to let the filaments warm up first. That's it for now hopefully later this week I'll try it out. SET12 helped much on this project, he deserves my thanks. Redboy has also answered some of my questions, it's my first 100% scratch amp

I bent it up from .100 aluminum and then spent an afternoon polishing it. Riveted it all together with flush rivets (aircraft style) I put the power supply in it's own case, I thought that if I don't like the amp I can just build a new tube section and reuse the supply. Thanks guys!
 
The 300B tubes came in yesterday and I plugged it into the variac and powered it up slowly for the first time. Sounds very nice, I don't think I'll have much voicing to do. I of course will have to play around some to satisfy the urge though. I have an hour on it and all is well!

I can tell you that his work looked really nice! As I was able to see it first hand.

He has a thing or two that he can teach me about metal work no doubt!

You know Vincei SET amps are the easiest amps to build. Sound is very addicting as well.

Please include a warning in your title before you post any more photos of your amp so that we can put on our sunglasses :D Beautiful! Did you use a buffing wheel and some sort of rouge to get that shine?
 
Spalls, One of my other hobbies is aircraft building. Between a few of us at the airport we can get most any type of metal work done and we all have our talents in that area. I have a friend that has a perfectly polished Ercoupe so learning the polishing stuff was done a while back with him. To get the perfect finish you need to wet sand down to 600 grit, go to rubbing compound and a buffing wheel and finish it up with 3 more grades of polish. Using his polishing machines it took about 3 hours to get the finish. As for the amp itself SET12 was a big help, he's the reason it worked so nice right off the workbench.
 
Both amps are now finished, tested and in my living room. I spent 3 1/2 hours listening to them last night and I'm very satisfied. It took about an hour and a half of break in and then they seemed to really liven up, maybe it was my ears or maybe the parts I'm not sure. At 12:15 my wife kindly asked me to turn them off. I will probably want to change something in them after I talk with SET 12 again, he's a man with many ideas! For now though I'm loving the music!
 
2 months later .......

I've had these amps up and running for almost 2 months now. The performance has been second to non. The people that I have had over to listen to them are all impressed with the system in general. I guess I should build a nice phono preamp next and get my turntable hooked up.
