Mystery Amp

I posted a few weeks ago that I was bidding on basically a General Electric branded Technics SU-V7 on eBay. Well I won, it arrived (well packed I might add) and there are several things that are quite puzzling that was definitely not on the Technics version. The most noticeable feature is the bank of lights where the "New Class A" light would normally be. It basically has lights to show you the cycle the "Computerized" circuit monitor goes through before the amp clicks on and the light behind the word computerized does not light up until after the amp is in "ready" mode. Also the lights which both on the V7 and my V9 are marked "via tone" and "DC" are marked "stand by" and "on". Basically while it is cycling though the circuit monitor the stand by light blinks and once it clicks on, that is when the on light comes on. Also the selectors both have a designation for CD and Video. The V7 was produced in 1981 and 1982 and the setting was just marked Aux since really there was not much in the way of home CD players in 1981. This unit also has many more vents in the rear, slightly different switch arrangement for the MM/MC phono settings and obviously different knobs. I cannot find anything on the web pertaining to this unit. This is definitely an odd one and I am sure if it had been marked Technics and not General Electric, I would have paid far more than $24.00 plus shipping.

That's a Technics with a different badge and labelling:

I've never seen one like it before...it sort of looks like a yamaha preamp with Technics knobs and buttons. Neverthelss, the actual Technics in the above post looks even more like a late 70s Yamaha.

would be intereting to see some internal pics, if possible. It's would be easy to tell what it is then.

Ahhh...A Technics SU-V707 which must be the successor to the SU-V7 that I originally thought it was based on and the fact that was produced in 1983 makes sense that it would have CD inputs. I'll take some pics of the innards since it needs a major cleaning so it will be coming apart. Still I find the GE designation quite puzzling.

The funny thing is I just brought it home and have not had a chance to hook it up. I've got some ideas on what to hook up to it. I'd imagine it would sound similar to my SU-V9.

Yeah, that was pretty much the reason I bid on it, because it is so odd. Like I mentioned before, I am sure the GE designation probably scared most away or caused no one to look at it. The nudies should come within the next couple of days. As you can see from the photos, it is quite dusty. It has GE's Portsmouth, Virginia address on the bottom, which I am not even sure those offices still exist. Does the GE name even exist on anything other than light bulbs and Wal-Mart appliances (somehow Wal-Mart got exclusive rights to the GE name when it came to appliances, which were usually Black and Decker a company closely associated with GE).
