Marantz TT problems

I have this beautiful Marantz Model 6110 turntable sitting in my closet. I want to use it so bad, but it's broken. However, I think I could fix it myself. I just don't know how to go about doing it.

Problems:

1. I plug it in and it automatically starts turning. It never stops.
2. Tone arm wont move when I switch the UP/DOWN swtich.
3. Tone arm stays locked in the little plastic thing that holds it down.

Edit: Here is a video I took displaying my frustrations. After watching this video, can someone help me? Maybe there is just something wrong with the turntable?

For problems #2 and #3, it sounds like you may need to flip the armrest lock up and out of the way. This is the little loopy deal that holds the arm in place on the armrest. It's not an automatic device, you have to flip it up manually, and (in my experience) you only need it when transporting or storing the table. Your picture is kinda dark, but it sure looks like this is the problem. If so, it's an instant fix.

For problem #1, is the switch just stuck on? I'm not very familiar with the mechanisms of auto-shut-off-and-return type tables, so I can't offer much help. But if you're not comfortable taking the bottom off your table and having a look at the switch yourself, a possible work-around would be to plug your table into a power-strip and use its switch for on-and-off.
 
You may want to have a moderator move this to the TT forum, there are some folks on there that really know the ins and outs of all of the mechanisms. Not that they won't eventually get to the Marantz forum but they may be more likely to see it there than here. Also do a search, I know that this has been discussed before. I know people with the 6300, 6320 etc have had issues with the automatic shut off and the arm raising and lowering.
 
The arm doesn't lift when it is over the arm rest: when over the rest it is ALWAYS down. It only lifts and lowers when over a record. And a headshell has to be installed or it wont be heavy enough to lower.

To make the platter stop, it has to be in the "auto" mode - then it follows the 'up/down' mode. In manual mode it turns all the time.

I am still having trouble with it. I don't understand the TT because it's automatic. I absolutely love my manual Technics SL-Q303. It works great and I actually know how to use it.

Here is a video I took displaying my frustrations. After watching this video, can someone help me? Maybe there is just something wrong with the turntable?

Hi it looks like to whole thing is out of tune. You need to open it up and adjust the machanics on it. Let me know if you need any help

This may sound stupid, but when you press the down lever, do you hold it down? Hold the lever down for a couple revolutions so the mechanism has a chance to catch and reset everything.


It looks like the table is trying to auto return the arm but cant shut down because its still trying to move the arm back. Hold the stop lever down for a few revolutions.

Did you watch the whole video? I do hold it down for quite a while.

The 6110 is very low end TT, the best solution is to open it and see if something looks wrong under the platter. But don't put any money on this table, if you want a Marantz TT, try to find a 6100 for cheap. The 6100 has a better finishing than the 6110

Hi, take the bottom off and take a few pics, I can take a look at them and tell you what is wrong with it. Or a video if you like to do that.

Here we go. On the first picture there is a white teflon "arm" that is suppose to touch the pin that sticks out from the switch. That is the switch that controls the on off of the motor. Lower that arm with the tonearm in the resting position until it pushes the switch pin in. At that point the tonearm is controlling the motor, let me know if this works and that we can fix the rest

That was kinda hard to understand. Do you mind take my image and drawing arrows or whatever on it, directing what I need to do?

When you move it make sure that the tonearm is in the resting position
