2 turntables and one phono input.

Is there a way to hook up 2 turntables with one phono input? Maybe i could use some kind of switch to alternate between the two? Could i use a turntable preamp and go into the aux. input?

Your second option would be your best option.. an external pnono pre, and plug it into your aux..
 
I use an AV switch from Best Buy with good results. It gives you the option of up to four turntables. I only use two but one set of inputs is accessable from the front which makes auditioning a tt very easy. Just use a short, high quality cable between the switch and amp.

a decent sounding phono stage is relatively cheap..(comparable to the price of a good moving magnet cartridge)

the nad pp1 ,pp2, cambridge 540 p,640p and several other phono stages from project,qed etc can make use of a spare line level input and give you a bit of flexibility in terms of mix and matching the sound of each turntable setup..

i have two phono inputs on my sansui au 719 but i run my rega p3 + rega bais cartridge through one of the amplifiers phono inputs and my ariston rd 60 + at95e through a nad pp1 into the aux input...
 
I've been thinking about this problem as well. I would like to have two TTs connected to the same phono input and have the ability to easily connect a third.

Wouldn't a DJ mixer work here? It seems to me that all of the connections are there and they can be pretty inexpensive. Plus they provide the ground connection...

i've had that in my eBay WATCHING section since you posted it and am now thinking of getting one, finally.

so is this a PHONE PRE AMP? i can connect both TT's to this box, then this box to my PHONO on my receiver and use the box to select which TT i want to use?

seems too good to be true for the price

That box is only a source switch, not a preamp or phono preamp. However, you could run two turntables to it and connect it to the PHONO input on a receiver and it should work for switching between turntables.

great, that's all i need. i'm happy with the PHONO on my receivers, so this would allow me to connect 2 TT's to my receiver.

I cant believe you guys are missing the mark like this, the solution is soooo simple. To hell with a preamp so can go to aux, and the rx, or pre with 2 inputs, and the multi switchy thing....the REAL way to do this, is to build a whole nother system to support the 2nd deck :banana:
 
This is what I was looking for. I have a late 70's Nakamichi preamp that only has one input. I had the other TT hooked up to a battery powered phono preamp and hooked to the Aux input but I would always forget to turn the power off on it.

I hear ya. I do have two systems sitting side by side. :thmbsp:
