EPI 100 in the Family

Ain't this boogie a mess
I got a pair of EPI 100 a few weeks ago, but I couldn't listen to them. Here is what they looked like:

Fortunately, the timing couldn't be better for AK member Lguise to clear out his closets. He had a spare woofer to the 100s sitting around. Barter Town is def worth the cost of a subscription. Also ordered some surrounds, and they became listenable:

Clearly, the work is not finished on these. Cosmetically they are a mess. I need to install binding posts when I recap and the cabinet needs major overhaul. I don't know if the MDF absorbed moisture and swelled or if they were dropped, but the corners are out of square in two directions:

From everything I've read here, this project will be worth it. I think I'm just going to take awhile to listen to them first.

Some nice DIY by the previous owner

Dont forget to "recap" the "crossover" and brace the cabinets while you are at it. Well worth the minor effort
 
Ah yes, I bought a pair of EPI 100's when I was in high school (1980). Powered them with a 35watt Technics SA-300. Took them to college and bought a Pioneer SA-8800 amp (80 Watts) on sale for $200. I used the EPI's and the SA-8800 at many a dorm party. They took a lot of abuse, and still survived. I still have the EPI's at home in the living room.
 
Good to see a shot of the dampening material. I have a pari of 202's that only had 3 pieces of square foam shoved inside. Didn't realize they should be stuffed full = not packed - with FG or other dampening.

Bought 5 lbs of Acousta Stuff from PE - but doesn't look like it will be enough?
 
I'm assuming that these are the fifth series of the 100s, as the model number is 100V. Is this correct?
