Mercer Island DIY Meet

Hi Everyone,

I'd like to announce that the Pacific Northwest Audio Society is sponsoring a DIY Meet to be held on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Church on Mercer Island, WA (about 6 miles east of Seattle). The "Club" will have a system, or two, set up in order that whatever you bring can be played.

This is not a contest, rather an informal "Run what ya brung" meet, where people will be encouraged to try out their equipment, meet and talk to like minded individuals, and hopefully get ideas for future projects.

We hope to open the doors at about 10:00 am and wind it up at 4 or 5 pm. If you've never been to one of these events, I can only say they're a lot of fun and a great way to spend an hour (or all day!).

I'll be posting more, such as directions, in the future as things progress, but you still have time to finish up any incomplete projects that you might want to share. Preamps, amps, speakers and just about anything Audio is welcome.

I'm not sure how to take this... I mean, what type of diy meet would it be without "stuff" for sale or trade?

We'll be providing tables for those who bring gear to display, trade or sell. Please note that we're not responsible for guarding your stuff, real diy'ers don't need others doing that for them!

Sir. Byrd - I am surprise to hear you say that. It seems so out of character for you to mention looking for new gear :D I will bring my pickup in case you need extra room for the trip home...

I'm done with getting big speakers, I don't want to get into specifics here, so you'll have to PM me if you really want to know what I'm looking for.

Well I think if we had a meet I would bring my heavily modified Hafler DH-220 , prized Dahlquist DQ-8s, and something for a preamp, as my current one likely will not last much longer.
 
I will bring my prized Kenwood KA-9100 and maybe my soon to be restored (with help of Sir.Byrd) Speakerlab Super 7s.

Or something else? We still got over 2 months.
 
Right now it is. I checked last night and nothing has changed or anything. I ran it for like 2 hours yesterday since it was awhile since I used it and after I tuned it off I checked and it looked okay.

But you never know.
 
It's been a bit, but on one of the other forums our 2008 Champion Speaker Builder, John Nail, mentioned that since his move to his new house, he intends on bringing a load of excess inventory to the meet.

One other note: If you are bringing your DIY speakers to the meet, please consider also bringing your speaker stand as well. We should have a couple of pairs there, but they may not match too well with your speakers and perhaps wouldn't allow the full potential of your creation to be demonstrated.

Update on the update: Dave Rosgaard, one of our best NW speaker designers and also a Past Champion of "The Puget Sound! diy Speaker Contest," will be bringing, at least, a couple pairs of his speakers to the meet.

I remember one of the entries to our speaker contest about 4 years ago that had a pair of two-way floorstanders that weighed in at about 275 lbs apiece or 550 lbs for the pair. There wasn't much in the way of cabinet vibration, but they certainly were a pain to move around.
