A trio of Fisher 800-C's

Just a quickie. Not cleaned up, except for the 1800. This is a reply to a thread in D&S, but I thought I'd post it here because it's not a value question.

These are the three variations of the Fisher 800-C AM/FM Multiplex Stereo receivers. The one on top is the most common model. The two on the bottom are the rarest Fisher receivers ever made.

The one on the bottom left is a "big number" dial 800-C, and is the only one I've ever seen. I never even knew this existed. Kyle, (Jailtime) tipped me off to this one, and I bought it off the DC Craigslist. He has also seen one, so that makes two that I'm aware of. The seller was kind enough to ship it to me. There is also a big number 500-C which is also rare, but certainly not unknown. The front panel is near perfect, only a tiny bit of wear around the volume control numbers, but fortunately I have a replacement front panel.

Bottom right is the Fisher 1800, which was the final version of the 800-C. This one was released after the beginning of the first solid state Fisher receivers, and was updated with the burgundy two-tone panel that matched the new SS line. These come up on eBay maybe once or twice a year. This is the one that I took to the Chicago area get-together at Robie's house.

Not being a Fisher expert (thought I'd love to find one!), could the big-number 800Cs been fitted with the glass from a 500C either due to factory shortage or a later repair?

Nope. The 800-C is AM/FM, and the 500-C is FM only. Completely different dials.

I also have a big number 500-C.
 
That big number 800C looks very clean. That one should be gorgeous when it's all done. They're all so purdy, I don't know which one to look at. :drool: The 1800 has a unique look, I really like that one. It would be interesting to find or make a database of 800C serial numbers to see how rare that big numbers model really was. Sure is a fine looking stack of Fishers! :thmbsp:
 
Quite the collection. That 1800 still blows me away (but I like the new one...I think the big numbers look better.). Glad the new 800 made the trek safe and sound. Those will look fantastic on a rack together.

Very nice! I want another tube reciever!! I'll take any of the above.

After checking prices on the Scott 340B, I'm kinda bummed I gave mine away to a friend, when I was an uneducated 16 year old, after I got a new Sony receiver for my birthday.

I find it interesting that the 1800 has updated cosmetics but retains the old style knobs. That's probably a good thing because nobody seems to make the knob brights for the new style knobs. I hear that people raid the early solid state ones for knobs for their X-100-3s, X-202-cs. etc. I know I'm looking for a solid state one for that very reason.

As far as I know, no. I've never seen a schematic or service manual labeled "1800", and the only difference between the other two appears to be the dial glass. I'll take a look when I have a minute and see if there are any differences in numbers on the transformers.
