Another weekend project complete....
These L15's were in really great original condition but the tops and bottoms were full of impression scratches and the wood on top was stained as well. You can see the major blemishes easily in the second photo. The woofer surrounds were shot too.
Knowing how thick the veneer is on these things I thought it would be a worthy refinish project without risk of burning through the veneer. So out came the Korner Kat and some 150 grit sandpaper for the initial sanding and a followup second block sanding with 220grit.
Wiped everything down thoroughly with mineral spirits and applied three coats of Watco's Danish Oil Natural over the course of the weekend.
In between coats, I refoamed the woofers.
They now look virtually out-of-the-box new and sound incredibly nice for their petite size. These are herd keepers for sure. :yes:
With all the veneer imperfections addressed, I decided to protect the refinished veneer by applying some felt feet'cha-ma-call-its to the underside. I'll let the finish cure a few days more before I smooth it out with some steel wool and then I'll use some Howard's Feed-N-Wax to buff and shine it to a beautiful luster.
