The published curve for the Bose 802E equalizer.
Gezz, no wonder the amp has be so powerful.
I know the curve is a little different for the other series
but anything over a 4 dB boost is a huge strain on an amp.

20 Hz = -5 dB
30 Hz = -1 dB
40 Hz = +3 dB
60 Hz = +14 dB
100 Hz = +5 dB
200 Hz = +1 dB
600 Hz = 0 dB
800 Hz = 0 dB
1 kHz = + 1dB
2 kHz = + 4 dB
3 kHz = + 5 dB
4 kHz = + 8 dB
6 kHz = + 11 dB
10 kHz = + 15dB
15 kHz = + 17 dB

Hey, fadetoblack......thanks for posting this, I've always wondered about these figures.........

Where did you find this stuff....I know Bose has always been "shy" about publishing numbers..........

I also assume that 901 and, by extension, other related Bose products (141, etc.) require similar EQ ............willhowl:thmbsp:

They were posted to another forum most likely from the 802 owners/service manual
I would think that with Pro equipment specs must be available for any professional use in clubs, etc.

Those numbers are slightly CONSERVATIVE compared to the EQ needed for 901 Series I & II!

From what I know so far the 901 Series I/II (I have Series II and 4) need the most EQ as they use the sealed cabs
and do have a reputation for needing the most powerfull amp's compared to the Series III and on.

yes it's a result of my never ending Google search and wanting to bypass the Bose EQ. I have two 10 band per channel EQ's just sitting around so I will give it a try in a few days. The thing is even when you buy the right Bose EQ for whatever Series your 901's are you still have the problem of 30+ year old caps that would need replacing. I'm not able to do that so how much more $$ is needed to get that old Bose EQ back to factory specs?
It's not a pretty picture for sure.
 
Oh man. That answers the question "How come these speakers don't play loud and don't seem to have a lot of headroom?".

Does anyone have the EQ curves for the 901 Series 1 and 4? I am stuck using the Series 1 EQ on my 4s, but seems like the bass is off proper uqualization.

I wonder how much off they are from the 802.

Yes because the spacing between the boost/cut points is set by the frequency for that point. However it will be necessary to select / vary the Q's of the filters to get a smooth / correct curve.
 
This is a ruff example of what you could get the curve to look like in two cascaded six band miniDSP PEQ filter banks. This requires some experimentation with the selected Q's and gain/boost levels.

Sure, I forgot about the Q settings (I have a miniDSP) in this case.

Some years back I tried to approximate the curve on a GEQ and had to adjust bands in odd ways to get the curve to track about right (plotted the result by running a signal through the EQ). That's what was still in my head asking about the 0dB points.

Or maybe even rather than trying to dial that way, run REQW and export the tunings. That would be interesting. Note I don't have Bose requiring the curve, or I would try that.
 
Much easier on the cost model to produce low cost drivers and boxes, and cost effectively eq them rather then build excellent drivers. Amar knew how to make money, and he was technically sound.
 
That certainly explains why the 802's sounded like they did without the eq, (iow, Terrible) It was one of my Holy Sheep **** moments in audio.
 
This ain't nothing, you should see what a 901 box does with its sliders at maximum. I believe over 30 db of gain at the upper end.

Uhhh....the whole point of the EQ is to level the net response. They were never intended to be used without the EQ compensation. :rolleyes:
