Knowing nothing about any of them, I assumed the Epos would do well.
 
From the graphs, I thought the Outlaw would do well. Just because it had more of the 'smile' look to it. Reading and understanding graphs seems to be an art form.

I also found that I need to charge more for my speakers.
 
I've heard the EPOS in an audio store. They didn't do that much for me, especially for their price.

But I've always wanted to hear the AV123-Ninja.
I've read good things about them over the past couple of years.

I picked the Outlaw, too. On second review, I could see why others would beat it.

Someone in another forum linked it yesterday; I was not associated in any way. Since we've been having many discussions about the relationship between measurements and listening of late, it seemed appropriate to bring it here.

Ain't THAT the truth!

It was hard because, with just a few exceptions, the on-axis curves were basically good, so good, in fact, that the measurements could be presented at twice the resolution I normally post here on AK.

Interestingly, the winner was uber-tweaked, with measurements, presumably. Stock, it would have been the "budget" contender of this group.... :yes:

Very interesting - I also had picked the Outlaws. It's fun to see a review like that.
 
I picked the winner, mostly because it's not far off from the little speakers I made (Murphy Blaster MBOW1s) which are outstanding little speakers.
 
Pop Quiz:

1) What are the vertical measurement angles?

5.85, 11.6, 17.1 degrees. arctan(4/39) where 4" = distance above (or below) axis, 39" = 1m distance to mic. Same for 8" and 12" off axis.

2) Why are the Ninja's vertical polars better than any of the others?

Lower XO point means longer wavelength at crossover point which means better coupling between woofer and tweeter.
 
Yup, and nesting the drivers like that decreases the center-to-center distance, widening the forward vertical lobe and pushing the primary nulls further off-axis.

Those notches at crossover in many of the others are the vertical interference nulls generated by differential distances to the two drivers playing the same frequencies.

Are they audible at those listening angles? You betchum.... :yes:

Interesting...I wonder if that is part of the subjective appeal of some of the old timers (ie KLH)? Those crossovers are generally simple and low by modern standards.
