Adcom GCD-750 Thrift Score
Picked this beauty up at a thrift today for $50. Very solid machine with excellent build quality. Going to give the DAC a try with my MS300 music server and see how it goes. Looks like this one might be a keeper

That was Adcom's TOTL player when it was introduced.
Nice grab! Last edited by Urizen; 09-02-2009 at 12:50 PM. |

UN-FRIGGIN BELIEVABLE!! Whay can't I ever find scores like that?
SUPER congratulations to you my friend! That is a VERY nice CD player for sure. It was designed as a sibling to the famous GFP-750 preamp which set the audiophile community on its head because of its outstanding price to performance ratio.

Exactly where are these "thrifts"? In New Jersey we only have places that charge and charge and charge. There isn't a good deal anywhere here? Even flea market vendors are aware of valuations and looking to rip people off.

I guess you just have to keep visiting these places on a weekly basis until one day there is a score sitting on the shelf! It's just SO rare to find a truly audiophile piece like that Adcom GCD-750 in a thrift store.

Until recently a find like this would be few and far between around here. But I have seen some nice stuff around lately at the pawn shops and thrifts.

I average about 20-40 visits of nothingness or junk between "scores" typically

Well I got it hooked up last night, took a while because I am running out of rack space. I got to listen for maybe 30 minutes and I am impressed so far. I have never owned a standalone DAC and have been looking for something to use with my McIntosh MS300 server. This piece seems to fit the bill nicely. I will give it some serious listening to this evening and will report back.

Great find! Only flaw in my opinion is that it doesn't have a digital output (and some may complain about how difficult it is to read the display at some angles). HDCDs sound particularly good on the GCD-750 IMO. Enjoy!

Yeah the display is bad, only readable close up and straight on. Not that big of a concern though. From the data I have gathered on-line, Adcom used this display because it was the "lowest noise" display they could find at the time.

Nice, theres an adcom amp sitting at a thrift store near me, well its sitting in a tent out side for the past year. I wanted to hear what it sounded like but the lady said she has to research it before she can sell it, last time I was in there she said she was going to have her husband test it out...last I heard she said they were going for 300-500, Its one of those sells that will never happen. I like the style of your also, just wish i was into cds
