They are pretty massive and not tippy, and that was with the bench grinder which is a lot weight up high. I am thinking about them for my next eWave project.
 
Mmm. Now you've got me thinking about a pair. If one was worried about tipping you could add a wider base to the three feet. (I think these are usually bolted to a shop floor with concrete anchors.)
 
I have two of these still in the box in my workshop. Impulse buy on sale at HF awhile ago, my grinders are fine on my workbench......so I had the very same alternative usage thought run through my mind just the other day as I was rearranging stuff.

I was thinking of painting them flat black, packing the tube with sand and using them for stands in my basement system. Glad I'm not the only one.
 
That's cheaper than building the wood and PVC stands.

Wonder if one could make veneer stick to them? Paint the foot, veneer the post and put some wood trim around the platform. Maybe spikes?

Much higher WAF, I'm thinking.
 
Or for true overkill engineering, bolt 'em to a couple of granite slabs! Then they won't tip over. :D
 
Good find djnagle. Similar stands like that are used on standard restaurant tables. Which these days there's tons of used restaurant supply equipment on the market.
 
Would running speaker leads in contact with large bodies of ferrous metal cause issues with inductance?
