I was there for the entire event last year; it was pretty special getting to chat with (one and one and as a group) one of the great minds of audio~

You're one lucky dude. I really enjoyed the part where he discusses the Stereophile Challenge. I also found it interesting that he has no plans to build a preamp to go with the Light Star amps.

I didn't want to hijack your thread so I started a new thread here about the resistor trick he mentions in the end of Part 1. Hope you don't mind.

No worries.

I'm confused; there were LightStar preamps that were built with the amps, but there were less than 100 of both made before Carver closed for good back in the late 90's....?

This just in from CarverFest '09:

Bob, after much research and experimentation, finally learned to wind high frequency, low distortion output transformers from David Haffler, who wouldn’t take payment – just said “buy me a beer sometime, at the next CES”.
