Yet more tubes needing rehab/recapping...

Picked up this stereo JVC/Delmonico table radio at one of this area's most notorious junk stores today (it's an "antique shop" that's been in business for ages). They have tons of cools stuff, though unfortunately most of it is rather (or extremely) beat-up, and none of it is cheap. The deflector wings on the side speakers are an interesting touch. It has 2 watts of SE output power (total? per channel?), provided by two 35C5 outputs. Rectification appears to be handled by two 35W4 tubes, which would seem to place it a bit earlier than my Victor SSL-71B receiver, which has silicon diode rectification. While it has the look of the earlier FM/AM stereo simulcast sets, the two tuning pointers are linked together and driven by one tuner knob.

It's going to need plenty of cabinet work to be pretty again, but the "rope" grille cloth is all in decent shape. If sound quality is anything like the SSL-71B receiver/speaker set, it should be quite nice.

Very nice. I've been running a home for wayward clock and table radios. I like to frequent those 'notorious' junk/antique stores too.

Many of the newer old 'ac/dc' radios have a floating ground and are somewhat safer than the hot chassis radios. I will often replace the power cord with a ground fault power cord off an old hair dryer. You can find the hair dryers at thrift stores for a couple bucks.

Nice radio Sam! Looks like mine.:D

Someone was much nicer to yours. :thmbsp:

I probably should have passed it up, but the fact that it's a JVC and the complete oddity of being an FM stereo tube table radio made it hard to resist. That, and the nice design. The curved slider on the side with the detached deflector is bent to hell, some careful hammer work is going to be necessary to make it right. That and one dent in the front cabinetry are going to be the trickiest repairs, most of the rest is just cleaning and refinishing.
