The "original" Ford GT was pretty damn much a kit car.

It evolved rapidly into something far different (and better).

The Ford GT40 and the Porsche 917/30... two of my all-time favorites GTs, plus the Ferrari 330 P3/4.

I hope we can agree to disagree on this one. No where close IMHO
Regards,
Jim

Figgered I'd get a pretty good "Rise" outta this 'un...(grin) Some people like greyhounds, others are partial to bulldogs...The Ford, TO MY EYES, is just more attractive than the Porsche is...You say Potato, I say Potahto...

"Performance figures quoted at the time make illuminating reading: 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds, 0-100 mph in 3.9 seconds, 0-200 mph in 10.9 seconds, and a top speed of 257 mph................................"

Holy crap!!!!!

I wonder how fast a twin turbo 917 30 would do a quarter mile

I was hoping to find the movie lemans starring steve maqueen

at my local library - they only have it on vhs and there are 23 people who have it on hold.

the 917 30 rules them all.

The 917/30`s were so blindingly fast they were outlawed! I saw Mark Donahue drive one and Man Blazingly FAST!! They actually had to de-tune the cars as no one would drive them. BTW McQueen wrecked three of those making that movie at 130,000 ea in 1970 dollars!! There is an actual McQueen crash excerp in the Movie. And you can buy the movie cheap on DVD.

917 twin turbo. The baddest mo fo on the planet at the time.
There were a handful of very lucky drivers who had the pleasure of piloting these ground pounders.
Thanks for the memories.

I do believe if my memory serves me right the photo of the winged Chaparal 2E was taken at Willow Springs oe maybe Laguna Seca and that is Jim Hall driving it.

"my favorite chaparral to look at is the 2j"

techsui, the "sucker car" has to be one of the ugliest race cars ever! <G>

But an amazing engineering exercise: Lexan skirts "sealing" the bodywork to the track and the twin "exhaust" fans powered by snowmobile engines, and automatic transmission. Jim Hall was a genius.

the Ferrari 330 P3/4.

Have you seen James Glickenhouse's modern Ferrari P4/5? Based on the original, designed by Pininfarina, built on an Enzo platform:

Yes, he has a multi-million dollar one-off, and he actually drives it!
