Technics SL-1900 TT?

Hi Analog Fans,

I pick up a SL-1900 locally, needs some work as usual. Anyone familiar with this model?

Check the Vinyl Engine for info: www.vinylengine.com

They have the Technics turntable catalog from 1977. Shows the SL-1900. Direct Drive, fully automatic.

Looks kind of cool, all black like that. I suspect that the Vinyl Engine has the service manual, etc, to go with the catalog.

If it's as good as my SL-1700, you have a nice tt there.

I believe it is in the same series as the SL-2000. A budget line, but not bad at all. I have a 2000. It is not quite as good as the SL-D2 I had or the 1700 I kept.
 
There were two parallel lines of Technics--the SL-1200 through 1800 plus MK2 versions comprised the upper tier. The lower tier was the budget consumer line, and the SL-1900, 1950, and 2000 comprised the first direct drive series in that line. The lower tier was lighter construction, but still decent quality, and later series even shared the same arm as the upper tier.

The SL-1900 looks like a new set of RCA's and the cueing works Eh! Sometimes. So that kills the full auto function.

Is there a cam or something on the cueing release?

Interesting table John, it looks just like an MCS that passed through my shop awhile ago.
 
MCS made some fine electronics back in the day.

I am trying to figure out how this comes apart? I want to see the cueing system. They make all of these TTs different.

I figured it out! 1st pic of cue cam, gummed up. 2nd RCA wires PCB. And it can be fixed easy enough.:scratch2:

Thanks, it is a plastic base but so, sounds pretty good. Nice strong motor.
Speed is on the money! Cleaned the controls. I think I have been through all of the line by now with the repairs.

From the (internal) looks of the SL-1900, it appears that the 1300~1500 MkI was similar quality construction. Plastic base and plinth cover, quite ringing.
I was once (when it was a current model) just about to buy one. But a reality check made me spend my hard earned and short cash into an amp and pair of speakers. I already had a Dual 1009 but no amp and no speakers.
 
I recently bought a 1900 for $20. Absolutely new condition, complete with Empire cart. Like most of these models at this age, auto start doesn't work because it won't drop the arm. If you cue up and start it manually, the arm drops fine, and the auto return and shut off also work as expected. So fully auto is not an option.

Yours apparently has/had the same problem, and you posted some pics, but I'm not seeing the solution. Can you give more detail?
 
I heard a JCPenny version of this table with an AT150MLX. IMO, more cartridge than the table calls for, but I have to admit that it sounded very, very good.
