Panasonic Boombox Turn Table.......Have you ever?

I thought you TT guys might like to see one of these.......I'll post this in the "Dollars and Sense" -- local CL posting, no affiliation.

Man, do I miss the 80's(not really)! Life was simpler with just my boombox and no real lust for any other boombox. I just used to listen to tape after tape and it was all about the music. The unit above would have been great for my collection of 45's and I would have been the coolest kid rockin' my colored and pictured vinyl! Wow and flutter and infrasonic rumble were the least of my concerns when I was skating a half pipe.......

You mean one of these?I picked it up a few months back at a thrift,and this thing is more fun than a barrel of monkeys.I use it to play my 45s,and what better machine to play those lo tech wonders on.Highly recomended.

Yours looks like the better "optioned/newer" version.......it has an EQ????!!!!!!

I have the UK version. It's got BBC markings on the dial. Can't bring myself to play any records on it since the tracking weight is 6 grams!

I owned one of those Panasonics. It was THE hit of field day in the 6th grade.

My older brother and his friend, Brad, eventually beat it to death with some ping pong paddles.

Pretty cool to see one again. Not much tracking adjustment to be done...

...and then do you still put a penny on top to keep it from skipping?

I have one of those, along with a half-dozen other boomboxes that included turntables. They used to show up occasionally in the used-audio wholesale places (although I haven't seen one in a while). Mine was almost a "time machine" and apparently unused, still having some of the original packing stuff stuck on it when I got it. The Panasonic was a big "gimmicky", and hardly audiophile, but fun nonetheless!

The "holy grail" of all boomboxes with built-in turntable is the golden-colored Marantz one. It was sold under several re-badge names, but the rarest versions are those that still say "Marantz" and have not been re-sprayed to a different color.

I have one of the re-badges (The front was re-sprayed in silver, but it still has the Marantz color on the sides and back and the Marantz manufacturer's sticker!). Even those are quite rare, but they occasionally show up on Yahoo Japan.

I'm still looking for that elusive all-original (non-rebadge) one. Even the famous guy in Germany (Radiohier) with hundreds and hundreds of boomboxes collected from around the world, doesn't have that one! I know him because he visited here in Hong Kong and we went box-hunting together. A while ago he emailed me asking if I'd sell him mine or source one for him, as it was the only major boombox still missing to make his collection finally "complete". He probably didn't realize that that mine was a rebadge, and I've been looking for an all-original one for several years without any luck! I've got possibly the world's largest accumulation of the TOTL Marantz PMS/CRS-8000s and 7000s (I pass them up now!), but not a single one of the gold Marantz turntable boxes, except the rebadged one. :tears: Guess I'm lucky to have one at all! :yes:
