Picked one of these bad boys up at the Salvation Army for 20 bones. Wondering about specs for it, can't seem to find anything. Here she is:

Also, the it sounds better if I use the tape inputs (it's currently running off my computer) rather then the AUX input, with the aux it sounds bassless and hollow. Phono sounds the same way, but both tape inputs kick the snot out of my Denon DRA-335R with my Lancer 77's.... Any ideas?

It may be that your RCA inputs are dirty or are no longer able to give a tight fit. One other factor, and this is a guess, is that the tape circuits are buffered and may, with your computer as a source, clean up the nasties and sound a lot better. BTW: The Phono equalization curve will always mess up and degrade a regular signal.
It could be that there's an impedence mismatch or the computer is overdriving the reciever. Try another source, even a Walkman type CD player will give you a good idea if something is wrong with the AKAI.

Howdy, jb8350i.......... I just googled Akai AA-1150, and got a variety of sources of basic info.............

One hit said 50WPC RMS 20-20K, another said 55WPC.....

some youtube video, other stuff........

I have an Akai AA-1030 ( 30 WPC) which is a good solid performer, very similar look to your unit.........

Love your Nudies....that thing has a STOUT looking power section........Tranny, and Caps.........

Nice tuner section. 4 gang FM with variable muting. The styling is the same so it is from the same era as the AT-2400 4 gang tuner which is a very good one. Probably a simpler version of the 2400 in your 1150. Once all cleaned up, see the sticky thread on cleaning analog tuners in the Tuner forum, you might be pleasantly be surprised by the FM performance.
 
Thanks for all the info guys, I'm defiantly going to try cleaning the tuners, as Raynald suggested. It seems to work pretty good as is, but that sounds like a fun project, and I need to clean a few of the pots anyway.

I love Rainmeter, it's great, I started using Windows again to play with it there for a week or so, but then I decided to reconfigure Conky based off the enigma layout, so I could go back to Linux

very nice and clean receiver you got there...:thmbsp:

got same model recently but the string to the tuning wheel is diconnected. could you post close-up pic how the string is tied. also, I noticed the 3 fuse holders have fuse installed, mine only on the middle but somehow it's working fine.... :D

got time to investigate the fuse holders and found out that 2 empty ones are for the power outlets at the back. :D

with help of the pics above, managed to spool the tuner string and now right on the correct stations... :banana:
 
Guys I just scored a AA-1150 for cheap and in very good condition. I'm having an issue with it as I compare it to my AA-1030. The 1030 seems to sound cleaner in the highs and more presence in the lows. On the other hand the AA1150 has more mid range. I am running a Technics SL-1900 turntable avoiding compressed music and let the amp do what it was designed to do. Try it!
Perhaps the amp board requires a service although I thoroughly cleaned it from dust.
Any ideas why such a variance?
