Infinity Reference Studio Monitor - what's their positive attributes?

I missed out on hearing most Infinity and would like opinions on this 3-way sealed box w. 12" clear woofer, clear mid and ribbon tweeter. Against other speakers of its size, how's its subjective coherency? smoothness? depth?, dynamics? impact with well recorded percussion?, vocals? - What's their downside? --Box speakers I have of that general size are L36, Heresy 1, large Advent. Is there a crossover schematic?

These are very similar to the RSM 1.5s. Good sounding with a larger amplifier. Tight bass, classic Infinity midrange, and sweet highs. Be sure to clean the fuse, fuse contacts and the crossover controls with DeoxIT. It will make a substantial improvement.

I still own a pair of these, though they are in a box and put away.

I purchased a pair these new. They were driven with a Marantz 2275, then a Yamaha Int. 1040 (not sure of this model number), last a P.S. Audio 4H Pre. And 2C Plus power amp. The RSM were never fatiguing and offered up nice detail, easily showing up the differences in amplifiers. They always seemed to lack impact in lower end; I played with positioning, stands, cables, cartridges and as you see from above amplification. IMO; the Emit tweeter is responsible for the distinct Infinity sound, producing light speedy top end, but adding its own character. The cabinets are real veneer, front and rear baffles paint and full front grill, so restoring them to a pristine condition is not difficult.
Within a nostalgic system perched on stands, they would add great visual appeal. I would prefer them over the Heresy and on par with the Advents. The Advents may offer a better investment but the Infinity R.S.M. will be less expensive to purchase.
I do not have any knowledge on crossovers. Two mods I always do with my older book shelves is to replace the old clip terminals with five way binding post and I screw a handle on the back for easy lifting.

Just a word of caution: if you screw a handle on the back of a speaker like the RS Monitors, be aware that the front and back panels (baffle in front and back wall) are a kind of MDF stuff that can break away in large chunks around screws, if too much stress is applied. I'd prefer to bolt through the stuff with a backing plate inside, rather than trust screws alone. Otherwise, you could easily find a handle ripping out, taking a chunk of the back panel with them.

Very nice-sounding speakers, about the smallest ones that can give you a taste of the vintage Infinity sound. While not quite the amp-killers that some of their big brothers are, they'll still do best with high-current, high slew rate amps. Be careful driving them to higher sound levels with an amp that isn't high-current/low-impedance capable. If you push the amp into clipping, you can fry the EMIT tweeters, not to mention kill your amp.

If you haven't heard early Infinities before, you are in for a treat!

Actually they were very advanced for their time and brought forth many innovations. Most of them also sounded pretty good, which is always a positive aspect.
